Chapter 54 The Tempting Offer

Beatrice replied calmly, “There’s no need to talk about it anymore. Desmond has already signed the divorce papers. If you really meant well for us, then persuade him to finish the rest of the process. From now on, I’m completely done with both him and the Belmont family.”
She spoke as if it had nothing to do with her, as if it wasn’t her marriage that had ended in complete disaster despite how much heart and soul she had put into it.
She had lost the gamble, and she accepted that. Beatrice didn’t hold grudges, but she sure as hell wasn’t about to forget the pain just because the wounds had started to heal.
William fell silent for a long moment before finally saying,
“Don’t say that just yet. Come back first. No matter what you’ve decided, this isn’t something that can be handled by just yourself.”
“Divorce takes both people. If one refuses to cooperate, it won’t go through. In the end, you two will have to sit down and talk face–to–face, don’t you think?”
Beatrice didn’t respond, and William added, “I promise you it’s just a meal, nothing more. Do me this favor, hm?”
She thought it over carefully before finally agreeing, “Alright.”

Truthfully, Beatrice’s agreement had nothing to do with respecting William.

She had already left Summit Group and was about to divorce his son. So, she and the Belmont family would have nothing to do with each other in the future.
The only reason she agreed was that she figured she might be able to steer the conversation toward business and convince William to talk Desmond out of making this any more difficult than it needed to be.
Gordon wasn’t far when Beatrice made the call, and he caught enough to grow concerned.
He walked over, his voice filled with worry. “Are you sure this isn’t a trap like last time? What if they’re trying to lure you in just to hurt you again? You really need to be careful.”
“You’re right.” She nodded.
Beatrice didn’t think William would stoop that low, but after what happened with Autumn, she couldn’t afford to let her guard down.
So, Beatrice made up her mind. “I’ll hire a few bodyguards tomorrow. Don’t worry about it.”

The next afternoon, around four, Beatrice dressed up carefully and headed to Belmont Manor with two professional

Her leg had already healed enough for her to walk normally since yesterday, but she still acted like she hadn’t recovered and went in a wheelchair.
If things went south and even two bodyguards weren’t enough, at least she could catch them off guard and make a break for it.
Meanwhile, back at the house, Gordon kept pacing, thinking it
over.
In the end, he picked up his phone and called Killian, asking him to find a way to let Damian know that Beatrice had gone to Belmont Manor.
Gordon let out a heavy sigh.
Beatrice had been staying with them to recover in peace without being disturbed. Now that she’d walked right into the lion’s den, the least he could do was give Damian a heads–up.
But after what happened yesterday evening, Gordon felt a little embarrassed to call Damian.
Killian wasn’t sure why this had to go through him, but since Gordon was an elder, he didn’t question it and agreed. Then, Killian stepped out of the assistant’s office and headed to the
CEO’s office.
At that moment, Damian was standing by the window on a call.

Whatever the person on the other end had said must have amused him, because he was laughing. When he heard the knock, he lowered his phone and said, “Come in.”

Killian walked in, completely unaware that Damian was still on the phone.
He spoke in a hurry as he walked toward him, “Ms. Lawson went to Belmont Manor, Mr. Crowley.”
Damian’s expression sharpened ever so slightly, but his tone. remained indifferent as he said, “If she wants to go, let her. Why are you telling me this?”
Killian hesitated. “Ah, it’s just…”
He had actually meant to say, “I figured you’d be worried,” but he stopped himself halfway.
Then again, he figured that even if he had said it, Damian had no reason to be worried. This was Beatrice’s business, not his.
Seeing Killian standing there lost in thought, Damian waved him off. “Get out.”
Hearing that, Killian instantly slunk away.
Damian picked up his phone again, and a man’s hearty laughter came from the other end, laced with amusement. “Oh, I heard a girl’s name. Who is this Ms. Lawson? A new hire? You actually seem to care about her.”

“She’s just my secretary,” Damian answered with a flat tone.

He ended the call in just a few words, then stood by the window for a moment before pulling out his phone again.
Later, he made a call and sent his most trusted bodyguard to keep an eye on Belmont Manor.
Damian shook his head slightly, wondering why Beatrice always made things difficult for him.
*****
Meanwhile, Beatrice had already arrived at Belmont Manor. Stepping through its doors again, she felt different.
This time, her mindset wasn’t the same as any of her previous
visits.
It was like visiting a familiar landmark, one she had stopped by over the years, now and then. But this time, she had a feeling it would be the last.
That thought stirred a mix of melancholy and relief in her heart.
As soon as Beatrice entered the dining room, she saw the table was filled with an array of lavish dishes, yet only William was seated. Desmond was nowhere to be seen, and neither was
Autumn.
Beatrice then motioned for one of the bodyguards to wheel her to the table before gesturing for them to wait outside.

“Hello, Mr. William Belmont.” She greeted him with a polite smile.

William didn’t respond. Instead, his gaze followed the bodyguards as they stepped outside, his expression darkening.
He already knew that Autumn and Madeline had teamed up against Beatrice at the hotel. So, he wasn’t quite surprised that Beatrice brought bodyguards this time, guarding against them like they were criminals.
Then he realized just how much serious work it would take to help his son keep their marriage and rebuild their trust.
William averted his gaze and turned his attention to Beatrice’s injury.
“What happened to your leg?” He asked with concern.
“It’s nothing. Just took a trip and had a little accident.” Beatrice brushed it off casually.
William nodded. “A vacation sounds like a good idea.”
Beatrice smiled, “Yeah, it was great. Would’ve been even better if your son hadn’t been a pain in the back. If he’d just quit dragging things out and go to the Courthouse with me to sign. the divorce papers, then it’d actually be perfect.”
Her tone remained warm and courteous, her expression. pleasant, but the words themselves were sharp and to the point,

skipping over any pretense of small talk.
William didn’t respond immediately. The usual kindness on his face took on a more imposing edge. “You really can’t give Desmond another chance?”
“At this point, I’m sure you already know what he’s done,” Beatrice countered. “So, tell me. Do you think he deserves another chance?”
