Trapped in the boss's embrace (by Katrina A) novel Chapter 55

Chapter 55 Changed Strategies

Desmond braced himself against the wall with one hand, his chest tightening so painfully that he could barely stand.

Did she really stop loving me? Does she really not care

anymore? Is it all the same to her now? If there was still even a shred of affection left, how could she smile and say something like that

That was when it hit Desmondhis greatest punishment wasn’t that Beatrice wanted a divorce or that she wanted to leave. It was that she had totally gotten over him.

He thought of the woman who used to look at him as if he was her whole world, who had loved him so much she was willing to marry him in secret, sign a prenup, and endure his parentscold treatment without a single complaint.

At that time, she was happy enough just to stay by his side.

And Desmond was dying to know how the hell he managed to lose a wonderful woman like her.

Inside the dining room, a loud smack echoed as William slammed his palm against the table. Don’t you think you’re being too greedy, Beatrice? Do you really believe you’re worth ten percent of the company’s shares?

Beatrice didn’t seem the least bit offended. I take it that’s a no?

She let out an exaggerated sigh, shaking her head in mock disappointment.

Well, in that case, please tell your son to finish the paperwork with me. I’m doing you all a favor, you know? I just saved you 350 million dollars.

Wasn’t it always your plan to find him a wife who’s actually from a suitable family? This is the perfect opportunity. If he gets tired of Madeline, you can just find him another one. He’d love that, wouldn’t he?

Beatrice!Desmond strode in from outside, his whole body radiating anger.

His hostility put the two bodyguards on high alert, and they immediately stepped in front of Beatrice to shield her.

She simply gave them a calm, amused smile and told them to stand down.

Even so, they remained wary, their eyes locked on Desmond. They backed off slightly but didn’t leave.

Their job was clear, and they were paid to do one thing: protect their employer.

Beatrice had a bright, almost playful smile as she looked at Desmond. You’re late. Your father and I have already finished our discussion.

Desmond clenched his jaw so hard it looked like his teeth might crack.

This is between you and me! It doesn’t matter who you talk to. Divorce? In your dreams. If you’ve got the guts, kill me, or go ahead and kill yourself. Otherwise, forget it!he spat.

Beatrice pressed her lips together in silence.

Oh, so he’s changing strategies now? He couldn’t win by being shameless, couldn’t win by sweettalking me, couldn’t win by begging, so now he’s trying threats?

Pushing a man like this when he’s already losing it isn’t exactly the smartest move. And reasoning with him? Yeah, that’s a lost

cause.

Beatrice was silent for two seconds before saying, You keep saying you don’t want to divorce me, that I’m the one you love, but back at the airport, you threw me aside and ran off with Madeline in your arms. Can you really say you haven’t been with her these past few days?

Desmond was momentarily speechless.

It was true.

At the airport, he had indeed left Beatrice behind and carried Madeline away. And for the past few days, Madeline had been threatening to kill herself every other moment. He had no choice but to stay with her.

Beatrice tried to reason with him, her voice calm but firm. Let’s just get divorced. There’s no point dragging this marriage on any longer.

Desmond’s gaze turned icecold as it locked onto her, and he let out a sharp, bitter laugh. You can’t wait to be single again, huh? What, are you really that down bad to become Damian’s girl?

William was stunned.

His mind then flashed back to the charity gala, to the video where he had caught a glimpse of that tall, imposing man.

Damian’s looks and presence were just as striking as his son’s. That was David’s eldest son.

With that in mind, William believed that Beatrice was so desperate to get rid of Desmond because she was aiming for the Crowley family.

William’s expression darkened as he lashed out. Beatrice, do you really think that just because we let you marry our heir, you can waltz your way into marrying the Crowleysheir too? What a joke!

Beatrice stared at the father and son, exasperated. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to stay calm.

There is nothing going on between me and Damian. You two better watch what you’re saying unless you want the Crowleys to come after you for slander!

Then why the hell was he at your place in the middle of the night?Desmond shot back.

Beatrice scoffed, He was in my house, but I didn’t sleep with him. Do you have proof? No? Well, I do! There’s a security camera at my front door. He dropped me off and was out of there in less than a minute. Tell me, what exactly could we have. done in sixty seconds?

She countered Desmond without hesitation, cutting off any chance for him to twist things further.

Then, with a lethal final blow, she added, And not only can I clear my own name, but I can also prove you’ve been screwing around with Madeline.

In fact, I have a little recording on my phone. Your precious sidepiece called me while you two were in bed, giving me a frontrow seat to your little show. Want me to play it out loud for everyone?

Saying that, she actually looked down and started scrolling through her phone.

Desmond’s face darkened immediately, and he snatched her phone away. She staged all of that herself. It’s fake.

Beatrice arched a brow. Oh? Is that so? So, you handed her your phone, and she staged herself moaning for me to hear? Did she hire someone to fake a man’s heavy breathing too?

Do you really think I’m going to buy this crap? Do you think

your dad would? Or better yet, do you think a judge would believe it when we go to court for divorce?

The moment she mentioned taking this to court and bringing all this humiliating evidence in front of a judge, William nearly had a stroke.

And then, he snapped, Divorce! Divorce her! Get the damn papers signed first thing tomorrow, Desmond!

He had underestimated Beatrice. He thought she’d cave, that throwing a good settlement her way would be enough to shut her up and make this all go away.

But now, she wasn’t stopping until she’d skinned the Belmont family alive.

Desmond didn’t say a word. His eyes bore into Beatrice,

unblinking, as if he could drill a hole through her with his stare.

Finally, he spoke, his tone light and indifferent, Go ahead, sue me. Do whatever you want. I’ll play along.

With that, he pulled out a chair and sat down.

Seeing this, Beatrice felt exhausted.

William, on the other hand, roared, What lawsuit? Haven’t we been humiliated enough? She doesn’t love you anymore, Desmond. Just end it all and move on!
