Chapter 76 Serious Mistake

Beatrice stood there, momentarily stunned, her mind a little foggy.

She realized that his apology must be for what he’d said earlier when she first entered his room.

Had the harsh boss suddenly found his conscience?

But what did his next words mean?

She went over and over each word he had just said, analyzing them one by one.

Slowly, it started to make sense.

He’d been frustrated because she hadn’t been courageous enough to go into his room. He was angry at her for hesitating, for letting her personal worries get in the way of doing her job.

And his final words made it clear. He was putting a stop to any rumors before they started. He was assuring her that nothing would happen between them.

A wave of guilt washed over Beatrice.

She nodded slowly, almost to herself. I understand. You’re right. There’s nothing between us, and there’s nothing to be afraid of.

Damian seemed almost disappointed, though.

Perhaps she hadn’t grasped the full weight of his words.

Beatrice felt much lighter as she descended the stairs.

Damian might be difficult to please, but at least he was willing to clear the air. It made things less likely to spiral into misunderstanding.

Later that night, as she was drifting off to sleep, her phone buzzed with the sound of a new message.

Still halfconscious, Beatrice reached for her phone and opened the text.

It was from Damian. [Ms. Lawson, remember to come to work tomorrow.]

Her eyes barely opened, but she typed back with a sleepy hand. [Yes, boss.]

In her exhaustion, she didn’t notice that her finger had slipped, and instead of boss, she had typed babe.

She hit send and tossed her phone onto the nightstand, too exhausted to even check her message. Snuggling deeper into her cozy blankets, she let sleep pull her under, completely unaware of the chaos that one tiny typo would unleash tomorrow.

By 7:30 the next morning, Gordon had breakfast ready and waiting.

Damian usually kept a strict routineup at six for his morning run, breakfast at seven with the financial news, then work calls in the garden before heading to the office at nine. But today was different. He’d mentioned going into the office, but his injuries had thrown off his schedule.

When eight o’clock rolled around and Damian still hadn’t appeared, Killian showed up looking puzzled.

What’s the deal?he asked with a smirk. Did our workaholic

finally discover nightlife?

It was, of course, just a joke.

Damian had never had much of a social life, even before his injury.

Gordon folded his arms, looking puzzled too. It’s strange. Mr. Crowley never sleeps in like this.

Neither of them dared to knock on his door.

At 8:30 a.m., Damian finally appeared. He looked tired, his face pale with dark circles under his eyes.

Killian and Gordon shared a worried look. This wasn’t like him

at all.

Damian ignored their surprised looks and walked straight to the dining room, as though nothing was out of the ordinary.

The two men followed silently, unsure of what to expect.

He sat down at the table and began eating his breakfast.

Killian, unsure of Damian’s mood, hesitated to bring up the day’s agenda. Gordon simply went about his duties, silently serving him.

After a few moments, Damian took a sip of juice and then looked up with a small smile. Hmm, this juice is really good today.

Killian and Gordon exchanged puzzled glances as the juice was the same as always.

There was something unusual about Damian. Despite his exhausted appearance, he seemedhappier, almost dreamy as he continued eating his breakfast.

Feeling unsure of whether to continue with the work reports, Killian hesitated, thinking it might disrupt his breakfast.

Just then, his phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen and muttered to himself, Why is Ms. Lawson calling me this early?

He was about to step outside to answer.

Take it here.Damian’s cool voice came from behind him.

Huh? Sure.Killian was a little confused but complied without

Chapter 76 Serious Mistake question.

He picked up the phone. Beatrice?

On the other end, Beatrice’s voice was warm and upbeat. Killian, what time are you getting to the office?

Killian answered, Around nine. What’s up?

So here’s the thing,Beatrice said, her voice hesitant. I’m starting today, but I still need to get my access card from HR, and I’m not even sure where my office is. Any chance you could give me a ride?

She held her breath, hoping she wasn’t overstepping. Sure, she and Killian were friendly, but asking for favors was different

territory.

Killian chuckled, You haven’t left yet, right? I’m upstairs. Just come up, and then you can go with Mr. Crowley when he heads to the office.

There was a brief silence on the line.

Beatrice hesitated, then replied, I think I’ll just wait for you at the office.

She figured it would be too forward to show up at Damian’s place uninvited, and hitching a ride with him to work felt a bit too much.

The room was quiet enough that Damian overheard most of the

conversation.

Damian slammed his glass down, making everyone jump.

Since when are you her personal chauffeur?he snapped. Let her deal with HR herself.

His icy tone cut through the phone line, reaching Beatrice’s ears. She winced, not expecting Killian to take the call right in front of

Damian.

Killian, caught off guard, was left awkwardly trying to figure out how to explain himself.

Beatrice quickly spoke up on the phone, Never mind. Killian, I’ll handle it myself.

Killian sighed, Alright, I’ll send you the number for the HR manager.

Beatrice replied cheerfully, Thanks, see you at the office.

She ended the call with a light tone, but a weight hung in her chest.

Sitting at her vanity, she exhaled, realizing she had made a mistake.

Her first day at the company, and Damian had already caught her trying to pull some strings. Now, Killian was caught in the fallout too.
