Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 196

Nora was settled into the same hospital room where Grandma Grace had once stayed.

Dr. Temple came in personally to examine her, and when she confirmed Nora was pregnant, her delight was obvious.

“Mrs. Chambers, you truly are blessed.”

Rumors were swirling outside, but Mr. Chambers still doted on his wife as always.

Nora said nothing. She kept her head down, her expression blank.

Daniel had arranged everything meticulously, even hiring two housekeepers to look after her.

After a week in the hospital, Nora returned to North Manor for a quiet recovery.

Then one day, the phone rang. It was Grandma Grace’s nurse, her voice trembling. “She fainted from distress. She’s been rushed to the hospital—she’s in the ER.”

The bowl of soup in Nora’s hands crashed to the floor, shattering.

She hurried to the hospital, heart pounding. The emergency room light was still on.

Mrs. Quinn and Eleanor stood together, clutching each other’s hands, faces pale with worry and guilt.

Nora turned to the nurse standing nearby, her voice icy. “What happened? Tell me.”

The nurse wiped her tears, anger shaking her voice as she pointed at Mrs. Quinn and Eleanor. “It was them. They’re the reason she passed out.”

Mrs. Quinn’s face tightened. “That’s nonsense. She fainted because she’s old, nothing more.”

The nurse, fiercely loyal to Grandma Grace, glared at them. “I heard them myself. They were in her room, bringing up your time in prison, pushing her to go to the press and accuse you of being a murderer. When she refused, they threatened that you’d never get out of jail.”

Now Nora understood.

Mrs. Quinn and Eleanor had tried to force Grandma to frame her, and when she wouldn’t, they kept pressing, pushing her until she collapsed.

Nora stared at the heartless pair, anger burning in every cell.

“How could you do this to her?” she demanded.

She strode forward, every step heavy with fury.

Just then, the light above the emergency room flicked off.

Nora spun around, eyes wild.

The doctor emerged, pulling off his mask. His voice was gentle, almost apologetic. “I’m sorry for your loss.”

Nora swayed, stumbling back against the wall.

She whispered “Grandma,” the word catching in her throat, unwilling to believe it.

How could this happen? How could she be gone?

The doctor sighed, quietly urging her, “Go in. Say your goodbyes.”

Nora half-ran, half-stumbled into the room, falling to her knees when she saw the pale shape beneath the white sheet.

She crawled forward, gripping Grandma’s cold, lifeless hand, her sobs raw and anguished.

“Grandma…”
