Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 214

“I…”

“Monica.” Hans shot her a warning glare.

Monica clamped her mouth shut, fuming but silent.

Hans turned to Nora, his tone conciliatory. “Ms. Cooper, I apologize on Monica’s behalf. I hope you can forgive her for what she said.”

Nora’s hands trembled; she couldn’t get a word out.

All these years, even though Aurora had made her own choices, the guilt never left Nora. Nightmares still jolted her awake.

Daniel squeezed her icy hand, a bitter smile twisting on his lips. “You think a simple apology erases what she’s done?”

Hans paused, silent for a few seconds, then offered, “As compensation, the Cooper family will concede two percent of the project’s profits.”

That two percent was the price for Monica’s recklessness.

Daniel’s voice was cold and unyielding. “For the next ten years, the Cooper family will give Aurora two percent of their annual profit from the project.”

Only with real compensation did an apology mean anything.

“That’s outrageous!” Monica burst out.

“It’s done,” Hans said, not even looking at her.

He took Monica by the arm and led her out.

The moment they were outside, Monica yanked her arm free, glaring at him. “Hans, how could you agree to that? What makes Nora so special that she gets a free share?”

Hans had finally reached his limit.

“Daniel doesn’t even like you, Monica. Stop obsessing over him. You’re coming home with me tomorrow.”

Monica’s eyes filled with tears as she whipped out her phone. “I’m telling Dad you’re taking sides with outsiders against me.”

Hans was done arguing. He opened the car door and got in. “Do whatever you want.”

Inside the house, Mrs. Chambers felt uneasy.

Daniel and Monica were of the same generation; he could handle Monica. But Mrs. Chambers was an elder—this time, only the family patriarch himself could step in.

Mr. Hogan Chambers didn’t spare his wife’s feelings. He scolded her sharply, accusing her of losing her mind—how could she stoop so low as to drug her own son?

She felt nothing but indifference toward the Chambers family.

Mrs. Chambers was about to retort, but Daniel cut her off, voice detached. “You should move back to the old house.”

Mrs. Chambers stared, stunned. “Dan—”

“Mom, my life is mine to live,” Daniel said, gripping Nora’s hand. “Stop worrying and enjoy your retirement.”

Something in Mrs. Chambers broke. She staggered back, whispering, “Even you resent me now, don’t you…”

“Mom.”

“That’s enough! You’re just as ungrateful as your father,” Mrs. Chambers spat bitterly, her disappointment raw.

She’d thought she was doing what was best for him, but her son had grown up and wouldn’t listen anymore.

Daniel was silent for a long moment before finally looking at her, his face unreadable. “You need to calm down.”

He led Nora away without looking back.
