David clenched his jaw, seething. “Daniel.”
He’d made sure to have someone stage an accident to keep Daniel away. So how the hell had Daniel still managed to show up?
Now Daniel’s men closed in, boxing David in from all sides.
“David, you dared to kidnap my people? You must have a death wish.”
Right now, there were two people David hated more than anyone: Hans, and Daniel.
He never imagined Daniel would secretly help Hans, forcing him into this desperate escape from Fairvale.
“Daniel.” David’s voice was thick with hatred. He yanked Nora in front of him, shoving her toward one of his bodyguards. “Tell your men to back off, or I’ll kill her.”
The cold gleam of a knife pressed against Nora’s neck, slicing open a thin line of blood.
“Stop!” Hans, usually so composed, suddenly lost control, his voice sharp with panic. “Don’t hurt her!”
“Let Aurora go,” Daniel snapped, face ashen.
David erupted into wild laughter. “So I was right. Nora is your Achilles’ heel.”
He’d gambled and won—and the realization sent him over the edge, his eyes wild.
“This is just too entertaining.”
Eleanor’s face had gone ghostly pale. She stared at Hans in disbelief, then flicked her gaze to Nora.
Could it be that Hans cared for Nora, too…?
“So she’s the one you’ve always held in your heart,” she whispered, her voice trembling.
Jealousy, hot and bitter, surged up and drowned out all the fear.
Her eyes darted restlessly; nobody could guess what was running through her mind.
David clapped, mocking. “Well, since that’s the case, I’ll give you all a choice. Three women here—each of you gets to pick one. Whoever’s left comes with me.”
He looked like a spectator, enjoying the chaos.
Hans spoke up at once. “Let Nora go.”
He didn’t hesitate for a second, forgetting he’d chosen Eleanor before.
Eleanor bit her lip, tears spilling down her cheeks as she stared at her husband in anguish. “Hans, you can’t do this to me.”
She was furious, her hatred for Nora boiling over.
Hans had picked her before, but one word from Nora was enough to make him change his mind.
Why? What made Nora so special?
David wasted no time in shoving Una over.
Hans caught Una, his eyes flicking to Daniel. Now, it all depended on him.
Daniel stood tall, his gaze icy cold. “Had enough of your games, David?”
“Oh, but Mr. Chambers hasn’t made his choice yet.” David smirked, savoring the moment. “Your ex-wife or your own sister, Mr. Chambers—which one will it be?”
Nora stayed silent.
Eleanor knew Nora wouldn’t give her any help. Tears streaming, she looked to Daniel, pleading, her voice choked. “Please… save me.”
Daniel frowned. “David, whatever you want, we can talk. Let them both go.”
“Oh no, no. I said you have to choose, Mr. Chambers—one or the other.” David shot a look at his men.
