Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 373

David was dead.

Hans was dead.

As Hans’s lawful wife, Eleanor had a stake in that enormous company.

The more she thought about it, the more exhilarated she became. Her gaze toward the operating room was sharpened by a cold, ruthless edge.

She hoped Hans would die in there.

Hurried footsteps echoed down the hall. Monica’s anxious voice followed: “What happened? What’s going on?”

She still had no idea what was happening.

It wasn’t until the family lawyer showed up at her door with a will in hand that she realized something serious had happened. She’d rushed to the hospital, barely even registering the chaos swirling around her.

She hadn’t even heard the news: David had been swept away by the river and was missing—his fate uncertain.

“Monica,” Eleanor said, feigning grief.

Monica didn’t want to hear a word from her. She grabbed Nora’s hands, eyes wide with desperation. “Tell me. What happened?”

Nora hated David, but she felt nothing but sympathy for Monica.

Monica was fiery and outspoken, never one to hide her feelings, and the truth would be cruel enough for someone like her.

But she had to know—sooner or later.

Starting with her own kidnapping, Nora explained everything slowly, step by step, giving Monica time to process each detail, ending with David’s fall into the river.

“That’s impossible. My dad isn’t like that.” Monica shook her head, unable to accept it.

Her father had always been the best dad in the world. How could he have done something like this? Yes, he’d been strict with Hans, but he’d also taught him, kept him close, and their uncle’s family… There was no way her father could be responsible for his brother’s death.

Monica’s world was crumbling.

“There must be some mistake.” She stumbled backward, her shoulder hitting the wall.

“Monica, you have to be strong.” Nora forced herself to sound steady, trying to comfort her. “No matter what happened, I believe your father would want you to keep going, to live your life.”

Of course, had he still been alive, he never would have let Hans touch the company.

But the will’s existence now meant that David was gone. With only Monica left, and no head for business, the company would inevitably go to Hans.

A lifetime spent fighting for control, yet he couldn’t bear to see the company fall into outsiders’ hands.

In David’s plan, there were only two possible outcomes: either he survived, or Hans did.

This—one dead, one fighting for his life—was never part of the plan.

“Right now, Mr. Cooper is still in surgery. I shouldn’t be talking about this at such a time, but it’s best to prepare for the worst. If he doesn’t pull through, the company will need someone capable of making decisions.”

Eleanor straightened, tucking her hair behind her ear and assuming the poise of Mrs. Cooper.

As Hans’s wife, she was the most qualified person to take charge.

“Mr. West, I’ll handle anything concerning Hans,” she said, her voice weary but her eyes gleaming with ambition.

Mr. West nodded. “Of course. Matters concerning Mr. Cooper are yours to manage. But for now, we’re talking about the company.”
