"The marriage license is legit," Enoch declared with a confidence that seemed unshakable. "You can bank on that."
"But we're headed for divorce."
Men, always led by their desires rather than their heads.
She didn't want to believe it before, but now it seemed painfully true! Even if he didn't fancy her, being together seemed to stir something in him. And now he had the gall to exploit that loophole!
Enoch locked eyes with her, listening intently as she spoke, then asked, "After you and Harlan split, did you see other guys?"
"Of course not!" Drusilla didn't want to entertain his ridiculous question, nor did she want him to think less of her.
A smirk played on Enoch's lips as he leaned in close, his voice a whispered temptation, "So, you don't ever wish you had a man?"
Drusilla was speechless, not just at the audacity of his insinuation but at herself for actually grasping his meaning.
"I do not want that!" she stiffened as she replied.
"Liar!" Enoch's voice softened, "Drusilla, be mine."
She couldn't believe what she was hearing from this man, "Have you lost your mind? Who was it that said I shouldn't set my sights on him at our wedding? You're not afraid I'll tarnish your precious reputation?"
After all, he was so full of himself, acting as if coming down from the heavens was a downgrade, as if anyone liking him was an insult, the nerve!
Enoch admitted, "I did say that, but now, I don't dislike you as much. We're married, after all, makes things convenient."
"convenient," Drusilla echoed, feeling a rush of indignation. To him, was a woman just an outlet?
