"No need," Enoch said, his voice casual as he lounged in the spacious living room, "I often just grab something to eat in my room."
His words caught Drusilla by surprise, "Really?"
Ever since she arrived, it was rare to see him dining alone; he usually joined everyone for meals.
Enoch nodded. "Yeah. After the accident, I couldn't stand... felt like giving up on everything. I didn't want to face my family and see their pitying looks."
Drusilla rarely heard Enoch open up like this. She hadn't realized the depth of his struggles behind his confident facade.
He was the golden boy, always in the spotlight, and then suddenly, he faced such a blow. It must have been hard on him.
She encouraged him, "Enoch, you'll get through this."
Hearing her, Enoch looked at her, his tone suddenly serious, "That's why you need to get better soon. How am I supposed to get my leg fixed if you're not at your best?"
He was counting on Drusilla to help him recover.
Drusilla's lips twitched at his words, reminded of her plans to leave. She didn't know how to face him now.
She cared deeply about her children, so much that she had almost forgotten everything else. But hearing Enoch's words and seeing him now, she suddenly felt her decision might have been too rash.
After all, her father and the entire Lawson family were closely tied to her actions.
She quietly ate her meal, lost in thought.
"Why so quiet?" Enoch asked.
"I'll do my best but... when we divorce, could you grant me one request?" Drusilla ventured.
"What is it?"
[I'm not lying.] Verena texted back. [Drusilla, honey, haven't you noticed? Your kids might really need a father. They're not little anymore. Other kids have dads; they might want one too. And since you and Enoch are married now, why not... introduce him to the kids?]
Verena's words made Drusilla recall that the kids had visited last night but hadn't seen Enoch.
She indeed wanted them to meet Enoch... they would probably be thrilled!
But, it wasn't her place to make that call.
[How about this weekend, you bring the kids over?] Drusilla suggested to Verena.
Verena responded: [These are your children, Drusilla. Are you planning to keep them a secret from Enoch forever?]
[I just don't know how to tell him yet.]
Even though Enoch had already promised to grant her a request when they eventually divorced, that was just the last card up her sleeve, one she hoped to keep hidden for as long as possible.
