Twins - The Unforeseen Legacy of My Ex's Uncle-in-Law novel Chapter 200

Harlan found himself sprawled out in the hallway just outside the door, and it was only when his assistant called that he managed to answer the phone.

His assistant hurried over, helped him up, and guided him into the car.

Once inside, the assistant asked, "Mr. Stanton, are you alright? Do we need to head to the hospital?"

The needle had been removed, and the numbness was subsiding, but Harlan felt thoroughly unwell as he sat there, shocked at Drusilla's audacity.

Well, well!

It seemed he had been too lenient with her; a lesson was surely needed to show her the ropes.

"Mr. Stanton?" the assistant continued, concern etched on his face, "What happened to you? Should we call the police?"

"No need. Let's keep today's incident between us, especially from my wife."

The assistant nodded, understanding Harlan's reluctance to worry Lilith.

Harlan added, "Also, there's an errand I need you to run for me this afternoon."

"Of course."

...

When Drusilla picked up Colton and Cormac from daycare, both boys looked visibly upset.

"What's wrong, Cormac?" she asked, noticing his downcast expression.

Cormac remained silent, trudging ahead with his head low.

Turning to Colton, she asked, "Colton, what's bothering your brother?"

Colton took Drusilla's hand, "Mom, I missed you."

She had missed them too; it had been a whole day since they last saw each other.

"I missed you too. But what's wrong with Cormac?"

"No," Cormac replied.

"Really? Because I've never seen you this down."

Cormac confessed, "The teacher said I can't be in the play anymore. Without the play, I can't win the prize money to buy you a gift."

This surprised Drusilla, "But why? Didn't you already get your costume?"

They had even purchased the costume for the play, and Cormac was looking forward to it.

She was puzzled, continuing to ask, "Did the teacher say why? Was the event suddenly canceled?"

"No," Cormac said, "Everyone else is still in it, just not me and Colton."

"Is that so?"

To be excluded like this was indeed a blow, even for little kids.
