Drusilla said, "Sit tight for a sec, honey. I’m gonna have a word with your teacher."
"Okay." Though Drusilla had reassured him, Cormac still wore a sullen face.
Looking at her son's downcast demeanor, Drusilla gently ruffled his hair and said, "Cormac, in this world, not everything goes as planned. But no matter what comes our way, I want you to stay strong. Don't let a little setback like this kill your hope, okay?"
Cormac mumbled a subdued "Hmm" in response.
After soothing her sons, Drusilla headed to the kitchen to prepare dinner. Meanwhile, she sent a message to the daycare teacher to ask about the day's events.
It took a while before the teacher replied, sounding somewhat apologetic, "I'm sorry, this wasn't my decision. It was the organizers. They called today, specifically excluding Colton and Cormac. There's nothing we can do."
"What? Who are the organizers?" Drusilla frowned.
"It's Celestial-Sounds Ltd., that popular app company. They're quite influential. I'm really sorry! I know Colton and Cormac are innocent in this, but my hands are tied. I even discussed it with the principal this afternoon, and she couldn't do anything either."
Drusilla's frown deepened. She googled Celestial-Sounds Ltd. and found out it was a subsidiary of the Larkin Group.
Wait, wasn't that where Harlan was working now?
At first, she was puzzled, but then it clicked. Was this Harlan's doing?
Was he retaliating over what happened at lunch by taking it out on their kids?
...
Meanwhile, Harlan was out shopping with Lilith, browsing through a toy store. Lilith said, "Honey, what do you think about this?"
"It looks great," Harlan replied.
"If we give this to Uncle Enoch's kids, they'd absolutely love it."
