For adults, it was a trifling matter, but for the kids, it was their dream.
Harlan said, "Isn't it because they have you, such a wonderful mother? Drusilla, you're just too full of yourself, always thinking the world's problems are simple. Sadly, you're no longer the pampered princess everyone used to dote on, you know? Today was just a lesson for you, to know your own worth. If you can't accept that, your kids are the ones who'll suffer."
Standing in the kitchen, Drusilla's fingers curled into fists involuntarily. Damn it!
She hadn't expected this man to be so infuriating!
Drusilla retorted, "Hearing you talk like that is actually hilarious. I don't even know what I did to offend you."
When they divorced, she didn't want to argue. She just wanted to get away from this jerk as quickly as possible and be done with it, to avoid the annoyance of his presence.
But her concessions ended up being the reason his family and he could bully her.
Since she left with nothing, they could easily pin all the blame on her.
And now she was already walking on eggshells, wasn't she?
Trying not to interact with him, to avoid any entanglements, but in his eyes, it was as if she had committed some unforgivable sin.
Maybe that's just how it is with people.
You give an inch, and they take a mile.
Harlan said over the phone, "If you want me to stop targeting them, come over to Azure Estate tonight. How well your son fares from now on depends on how responsible you are as a mother!"
Azure Estate was their old house. His intentions couldn't be more obvious!
"Don't even think about it," Drusilla said. "I can't believe you'd stoop so low. You're not worried I'd tell your wife?"
"That depends on whether she believes you or not," Harlan said, and then he hung up.
Enoch wasn't upstairs; he was in the living room, chatting with Blythe.
"When are you going to bring the kids back home? What are you thinking, Enoch?" Blythe asked.
Enoch replied, "I've been quite busy lately."
"What could possibly be more important than your children?" Blythe pressed.
Enoch glanced at his mother, about to say something, when he noticed Drusilla walking in.
His gaze followed her as she approached and sat next to him, joining the conversation, "What are we talking about?"
"Nothing," Enoch quickly said, knowing she didn't like discussing kids.
Blythe, however, didn't shy away, always blaming Drusilla for Enoch's reluctance to bring the kids back.
