Drusilla rolled her eyes with a hint of sarcasm, "I'm doing this by choice, you know. If I'm not freaking out, why are you?"
Enoch nearly choked on his own frustration upon hearing her retort, "Yeah, yeah, fine. I'm just sticking my nose where it doesn't belong. Watch me not give a damn from now on!"
Rubbing his temples, he couldn't believe he was getting worked up over nothing, like a dog chasing its own tail.
With a cold huff, he let go of her hand, shutting down the conversation, "Just go. I can't stand looking at you right now."
Seeing Enoch's frustrated figure, Drusilla coughed lightly, trying to see things from his perspective. Deep down, she knew his intentions were good.
She turned to Enoch, trying to smooth things over, "Look, I'm just worried about the kids. You don't get it, acting like this makes Colton think you favor Cormac over him."
"Cormac is a good kid."
"So is Colton. They're just different, and you can't measure them by the same yardstick. Colton has his strengths too. Enoch, you playing favorites is only going to hurt them in the end!"
Enoch, now silent, looked at her and finally said, "Got it. I'll do better next time. Given how thoughtful you are, no wonder they're both so fond of you."
He could see how much the kids adored Drusilla. Being a dad for the first time without a clue, he had reflected on his behavior after seeing Drusilla storm out earlier. Now, confronted by her words, he was genuinely apologetic, "I've never really handled kids before. If I mess up, make sure to let me know."
Drusilla, taken aback, wondered if this was really Enoch speaking. She couldn't believe the usually arrogant man was now showing such sincerity, almost like a schoolboy admitting his mistakes.
After a brief moment of surprise, she replied, "Alright. I'm going to take Colton out for a bit, maybe swing by Verena's place."
"Okay."
"I'll leave Cormac with you." Initially, she had planned to take Cormac with her, even considering just walking out on the whole situation. But seeing Enoch's change of heart, she softened.
