Verena lounged on the couch, taking in the tidiness of her home with a grateful sigh. "Drusilla, you're too good. I feel almost guilty for letting you do all this."
Drusilla glanced at her and asked, "Haven't eaten yet, have you?"
"Nope, was just about to order some delivery."
Ordering in was Verena's go-to solution whenever she found herself alone at home. The kitchen, for the most part, remained pristine and unused.
"No need for that," Drusilla interjected, "I brought over some groceries. I'll whip us up something nice. Don’t order take-outs. Plus, Colton hasn't eaten anything either."
"Weren't the Taylors supposed to have him over for dinner?" Verena asked. "He didn't eat?"
The Taylors were known for their generous hospitality. Verena fondly remembered a meal she had at their place, especially Cybele's cooking—it was divine.
Drusilla briefly mentioned how Enoch had lectured Colton, prompting a scoff from Verena. "He's just targeting me, obviously looking for trouble. Thankfully, I'm not the mother of those two, or I'd be driven to my wit's end. Still, you should find a moment to clear the air with Enoch about the kids. We wouldn't want him harboring any misunderstandings."
"I've been thinking about how to bring it up," Drusilla admitted. Feeling it necessary to finally address the issue to prevent Enoch from harboring ill feelings toward Verena, which only upset Drusilla more, she made her way to the kitchen to start on dinner.
Verena, meanwhile, reclined on the sofa, enjoying the care and attention from Drusilla.
Soon, her phone rang. Verena answered on speaker, and Lilith's voice filled the room, "Hey, Verena."
Drusilla stopped chopping vegetables and listened in more quietly.
"What's up?" Verena asked.
"Did Drusilla bring Colton over to your place?" Lilith asked curiously.
Verena looked at Drusilla, who simply raised an eyebrow, choosing not to comment.
Lilith, noticing Verena's silence, pressed, "Verena, are you there?"
"I'm here," Verena assured. "Don't worry, I'll have a word with your uncle about this."
"That's a relief. Feel free to come over and see Colton and Cormac anytime later. Just give me a call."
"Will do," Verena replied.
After hanging up, Verena placed a hand on Drusilla's shoulder, "I can hardly keep up the act anymore. Listening to her every day is driving me crazy."
Drusilla met her gaze with a smile, "I find it quite entertaining, actually."
