Enoch caught the drift of what Colton was saying and glanced at Drusilla. It was no secret that Harlan wasn't a fan of Drusilla, always quick to gossip when Enoch wasn't around.
Although Harlan wouldn't dare say anything in front of Enoch, Enoch knew the whispers would flow freely behind closed doors.
But to think, the reason Colton clashed with Harlan was all because of this!
Ruffling Colton's hair, Enoch couldn't help but concede, "Alright, you've got a point. I'll let it slide this time. Throwing fists isn't the way to solve things, but standing up for those you love... that's admirable. Let's call it even."
Colton visibly relaxed at those words, and Drusilla sighed in relief alongside him. It was a breakthrough, and at least now, Colton could let go of that nagging guilt.
Trying to lighten the mood, Colton, fidgeting with his fingers, shyly asked, "Can I... can I see your model collection?"
Enoch, surprised, glanced at the shelves lined with meticulously assembled model cars and planes, remnants of his own childhood passions. "You like them?" he asked.
Colton nodded eagerly.
"Sure, but it's getting late. Time for bed. You guys can handle taking a bath on your own, right? Cormac, you got this?"
Cormac proudly confirmed, "I always bathe by myself."
Lying beside Colton, she whispered, "Do you like spending time with your dad?"
"I don't know," came Colton's uncertain reply, burrowing closer to her in search of comfort, while Cormac was already deep in sleep.
Suddenly their quiet moment was interrupted by a knock.
Drusilla, careful not to wake the boys, slipped out of bed to find Cybele standing at the door. "What brings you here?" Drusilla asked, puzzled by the unexpected visit.
