Drusilla couldn't believe his attitude, "So, feeling down gives you a free pass to drink?"

He let go of her hand, retorting, "Why are you even here bothering me? Shouldn't you be off with your Dr. Denton?"

Drusilla paused, her gaze fixed on Enoch as she remembered running into him at lunch with Serge.

"I thought you didn't see me there!" she exclaimed.

But he had, and not even a nod in her direction before he walked off. That seemed a bit much, didn't it? Normally, you'd at least nod to acquaintances on the street. And here they were, close as can be, and he acted as if she was invisible.

Enoch misunderstood her, snapping back, "Oh, what? Were you planning to keep it a secret forever? If you're so into Serge, then go be with him!"

Drusilla caught the real issue at hand, "So, you hitting the bars was all because you saw me having lunch with Serge?"

Her straightforward question made Enoch squirm, avoiding her gaze.

She looked at him, disbelief in her voice, "Don't you think you're being a bit childish?"

Enoch hung his head, his voice filled with sadness, "I'm just a guy with a bad leg, of course, you wouldn't want me. Serge's got it all - looks, charm, exactly your type."

He thought he'd gotten past his sensitivity about his injury, especially since there was hope for recovery. But seeing her with Serge today, he felt a deep sense of insecurity. Next to them, he felt like a complete joke.

She was interested in someone else, and he... he felt utterly powerless to make her stay.
