Verena's anger bubbled up with each word she heard, her fists clenched tightly at her sides.
And yet, Lilith seemed blissfully unaware of the brewing storm, cheerily suggesting, "Their fight's your golden ticket, Verena. Just have a chat with my uncle, and who knows? He might just fall head over heels and marry you!"
"Right," Verena gritted her teeth, plotting her revenge on that jerk.
Back in her room, Drusilla sank into the couch, her thoughts wandering to Enoch who had missed his acupuncture session. Finally, she decided to call Oberon.
"Ma'am," Oberon greeted.
"Is Enoch at the office right now?"
Oberon nodded, even though she couldn't see him. "We've just arrived."
"Maybe I should come over? We've missed a couple of sessions, and we can't let his mood ruin his treatment."
"I'll ask him," Oberon offered, though he was baffled by Enoch's behavior. Initially, inviting Drusilla over was all about helping his leg with acupuncture. Yet, now he was skipping sessions!
...
Entering the office, Oberon served Enoch a glass of water. "Mr. Taylor," he started.
"What is it?" Enoch barely looked up from his paperwork.
"Madam called."
At the mention of Drusilla, Enoch's thoughts drifted to the day's events. He had always stood by her, especially against Lilith's antics. But today, he had let her down. He realized he wanted her to seek him out, to appease him, to acknowledge his importance. Reflecting on his motives, he felt petty.
Oberon relayed Drusilla's message about the missed acupuncture session, emphasizing her willingness to come over if it was inconvenient for him.
"No need. I'll head back," Enoch decided.
Enoch nodded.
Lilith chimed in, "Uncle Enoch, Verena's here too."
She knew about the quarrel between Enoch and Drusilla, seizing it as an opportunity to set Verena up.
Verena, already biased against Enoch for his treatment of Drusilla, coldly offered, "Mr. Taylor, can we talk?"
Enoch, surprisingly open to the conversation, agreed, "Sure."
They didn't enter the house but headed to the garden gazebo instead.
Lilith watched them go, her heart skipping with glee at the thought of them together. After all, Verena was a gem, surely they'd hit it off.
"Kids, let's head inside," Blythe suggested to Colton and Cormac, guiding them back into the house.
