If it had been any other day, Drusilla wouldn't have minded Verena sticking up for her.
But today, of all days, Verena's situation was a delicate one. If she defended Drusilla, some secrets just couldn't be kept under wraps anymore.
Drusilla glanced at Saskia and let out a derisive laugh. "Looks like you're not interested in enjoying this dinner, huh?"
"What's the problem?" Saskia shot back, glaring at Drusilla. "You think I can't speak the truth? Marrying into the Taylor family with your kind of reputation? I don't know what they were thinking!"
With Lilith on her side, and Lilith expecting, Saskia felt emboldened.
"Saskia," Lilith interjected softly.
Saskia cut her off, "Lilith, honey, it's not that I want to meddle, but... this woman, marrying your uncle? it's just going to ruin him!"
She couldn't believe the Taylors would tolerate Drusilla, a walking embarrassment.
Blythe, sitting quietly to the side, was visibly uncomfortable with the conversation.
Saskia, seizing the opportunity to stir things up further, said, "Mrs. Taylor, no offense, but everyone knows what kind of person she is. With the Taylor family's standing, you could have any woman you want. Why settle for her?"
“Oh?”
That's when Enoch spoke up, his voice cutting through the tension, silencing Saskia's provocations.
Drusilla saw him, wondering where he'd been until now.
Oberon wheeled Enoch to the table and helped him settle into his chair.
