Drusilla had made her morning rounds, reminding Cybele to give her a heads-up if Raymond swung by.
Upon hearing this, Drusilla gave a quick nod, acknowledging, “Got it!”
She helped Enoch settle into his chair before heading to the door, cracking it open to tell Cybele, “Let him up when he gets here.”
Cybele nodded, throwing in an update, “Oh, by the way, Ms. Larkin and Mr. Stanton dropped by today.”
That caught Drusilla off guard. “I thought they left town?”
They had left with the kind of goodbye that hinted they wouldn’t be back anytime soon. Yet, here they were, not two days later!
Cybele filled her in, “Ms. Larkin forgot something here. Plus, she mentioned she wanted to drop by to check on the old man.”
Lilith was always the caring type, especially towards Wendell Taylor. She’d visit him now and then, bringing comfort and company.
Despite their rocky relationship, Drusilla couldn’t help but respect that part of her. “Alright, noted.”
…
After their brief chat, Cybele headed downstairs.
There, Raymond was already making himself comfortable in the living room, sipping on the tea a servant had served him.
Harlan was right beside him, asking, “You’re Raymond Horton, I presume?”
Raymond nodded.
Harlan quickly stood up, reaching out for a handshake, “Heard a lot about you. It’s an honor.”
Back when he wanted Drusilla out of the picture, it was all to get Raymond to come over for a consultation.
Raymond was well-known, a go-to for many athletes for his acupuncture skills.
But at that time, Enoch seemed utterly spellbound by Drusilla, refusing anyone but her, leaving Harlan no chance to introduce Raymond.
And yet, here was Raymond, unexpectedly making an appearance.
Raymond offered a smile in return.
