Drusilla glanced over at Hestia, her voice steady but carrying the weight of years of frustration. "I've always wanted to say something, but back then, I had no proof. Even if I explained, you wouldn't have believed me."
Hestia felt a chill run down her spine as Drusilla's gaze settled on her. This wasn't how things were supposed to go. She had hoped Saskia would put Drusilla in her place, but instead, Saskia had ended up on her knees, completely outmaneuvered by Drusilla.
Caught in a rough patch with Leander already, Hestia quickly donned a mask of contrition. "Drusilla, I didn't realize things were like this. We've misunderstood you all these years."
Drusilla's lips curled into a sardonic smile. "Shouldn't I be grateful then? I bet you haven't held back when talking about me to my dad, right?"
It wasn't just Hestia; Odette too had ganged up with her mother, weaving tales to paint Drusilla in a bad light. Drusilla remembered every slight, every whisper.
Hestia stiffened, her voice faltering. "Why would I do that? There's nothing of the sort!"
Drusilla shrugged, her tone casual yet cutting. "You know what you've done. Sometimes, if you push too far, you might find yourself out of this house."
"You..." Hestia started, but the stern look on Leander's face made her swallow her words. She could sense his displeasure even without him saying a thing.
Hoping to defuse the tension, she murmured, "Honey, I'll go make lunch." With that, she retreated to the kitchen, hoping Leander would remember her years of dedication to the Lawson family.
Leander gave her a mock stern look. "Of course. If I ever meet your mother again, how could I face her otherwise?"
He had loved Drusilla's mother deeply. Her early passing had left him juggling work and parenting, and Hestia's seemingly gentle nature had made her a convenient choice to help raise Drusilla. Ironically, she had done quite the job.
Drusilla squeezed his hand. "Let's not dwell on that. I just want you to stay healthy."
Before long, Hestia had lunch ready. Drusilla stayed to share the meal with her father, and Odette was there too, sitting quietly. Hestia kept her head down, the atmosphere thick with unspoken words.
