He found it quite odd. "Mom, didn't you dislike her too? Why aren't you letting them get a divorce?"
"The kids really like her," Blythe replied. "Didn't you see Colton and Cormac earlier? They're very fond of her now."
"That's exactly why she should leave! Who knows what she'll teach them! The kids are too young to understand now, but they'll know better when they're older."
Kendrick was very protective when it came to children.
Ever since Lilith was little, he'd decided against remarrying just to avoid bringing a stepmother into her life. He raised Lilith all by himself.
Enoch listened to his mother and Kendrick discussing Drusilla, and interjected, "Drusilla and I have our own understanding. Big brother, whatever you plan to do that involves her, I'd appreciate a heads-up."
Kendrick raised an eyebrow, "What, you're defending her now? Enoch, what's so special about this woman that has you so captivated?"
"That's my business. I've got it under control."
"Under control? You don't seem like it," Kendrick replied sternly. "It's like she's put a spell on you."
Enoch didn't answer his question but instead reiterated his request, "Can you do that?"
Kendrick observed him for a moment and nodded, "Alright."
He didn't like it, but since Enoch had asked directly, he couldn't refuse. Just like when he agreed to let Lilith visit, Enoch had also consented.
It was the unspoken understanding that had allowed the brothers to coexist peacefully for so many years.
...
Drusilla had dropped the kids off at school and bought them some snacks before they went in.
Cormac stood in front of her, "Mom, are you upset?"
Leander was already up, having breakfast. His face still looked a bit swollen from yesterday's incident.
Drusilla sat down beside him, "Hey, Dad."
He glanced at her while sipping his coffee, "Why are you here? I told you I was fine."
She knew her frequent visits were because she was worried about his injuries.
"I just wanted to see how you're doing. Is that so bad?" Drusilla replied.
The people who caused trouble yesterday didn't know it was the Taylor family who had sent them. Leander was under the impression it was just some local troublemakers.
The police had concluded that the attackers were disgruntled former employees from Leander's company, seeking revenge for being fired.
