Chapter 248
“Xavier is a rich and powerful businessman, running such a huge corporation. He’s probably just used to keeping a straight face.”
Aveline smiled bitterly to herself, because she couldn’t possibly tell her grandmother that Xavier was actually quite gentle with Josephine.
“Grandma, I’m not mistaken. He really doesn’t have any feelings for me.”
“We lived together for a year after getting engaged. I know it for a fact.”
Collin’s face darkened. “Then why did you still marry him?
You just got your marriage certificate a few days ago, and now you want a divorce. It’s like you’re playing games.”
Aveline lowered her eyes and remained silent.
She blamed herself for not realizing sooner that Xavier had no feelings for her. If she had, she wouldn’t have gotten the marriage certificate with him.
And she wouldn’t be in this messy situation of wanting a divorce but finding it so difficult.
She used to love Xavier too much. She vaguely sensed something was wrong but didn’t dare to look deeper, probably subconsciously afraid of losing him.
It wasn’t until she saw him go to a hotel with Josephine with her own eyes on her birthday night, and saw him come out of the hotel room, that she could no longer lie to herself.
Paulina suddenly slapped her thigh. “Aveline, does Rupert know about this?”
“The invitation to his birthday banquet has already been sent, and it says they’re going to announce your marriage to Xavier that day. This…”
Aveline said calmly, “Actually, when Rupert first returned to the country, we had dinner together, and I told him, but he didn’t agree.”
“Whether Rupert agrees or not, I’m determined to get a divorce.”
Collin frowned. “If you insist on the divorce and Rupert disagrees, your grandmother and I can go talk to him.”
“What era is this? People should be able to part on good terms.
But filing a lawsuit right when he’s holding his birthday banquet isn’t a good look.”
“Aveline, our family. can’t be so inconsiderate.”

Aveline frowned slightly. “Grandpa, I gave Xavier time.”
Paulina patted Aveline’s hand. “Your grandpa is right. You can’t hit Rupert with this during his birthday celebration.”
“If this goes to court, the whole city will know. The Beltran family isn’t just some ordinary family, the media will def- initely have a field day with it.”
“After the birthday banquet, your grandpa and I will make a trip to have a proper discussion with the’s elders.”
“In any case, our family won’t take a single penny from the, okay?”
Aveline replied to her grandmother, “The terms in the divorce agreement I sent to Xavier were that I’d be waiving all claims to marital assets.”
Collin nodded. “In that case, the has no reason to disagree with the divorce.”
“Don’t be hasty. It’s just a few more days.”
Aveline fell silent.
Her grandparents were well–mannered and had lived their whole lives with dignity. If she insisted on filing a lawsuit tomorrow, they would surely be very angry and disappointed.
Paulina looked Aveline over, then pulled her into a hug,
“Good girl. Grandma doesn’t know what grievances you’re holding in your heart, but if you really don’t want to be with Xavier anymore, then your grandpa and I will definitely support you.”
“But you have a long life ahead of you, a long road to walk. You must understand the importance of being consider- ate, and not making things ugly for yourself.”
“Aveline, listen to your grandpa and grandma. Wait until after the birthday banquet, okay?”
Collin said, “The birthday banquet is on Friday. On Saturday or Sunday, we’ll go see Rupert. If the still doesn’t agree, then we’ll support you in going to court.”
Since her grandparents had put it that way, if Aveline still insisted on her own path, she would truly destroy the good name they had maintained their entire lives.
The dignity and upbringing her maternal grandparents had cherished their whole lives would be ruined by her. It would break their hearts, and hers too.
It was only for a few more days.
“Okay, I’ll wait until after Rupert’s birthday banquet. If Xavier still refuses to divorce, I’ll definitely go to court on Monday.”
Collin and Paulina were slightly relieved to hear that.
But a heavy feeling still lingered in their hearts.
After all, Aveline was the only child they had left. It was painful for them to see her marriage so unhappy.

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
