Chapter 249
Aveline was staying the night at her maternal grandparents‘ house. Once she was in her room, she called Fiona to tell her about the new development.
Fiona blurted out, “Damn it, Aveline.”
Aveline wasn’t surprised by Fiona’s reaction and said apologetically:
“Sorry, Fiona.”
“If I file for divorce before Rupert’s birthday banquet, the Zimmerman family will definitely be angry. Rupert might not do anything, but Xavier’s mom and his older sister will for sure come to my house and chew out my maternal grandparents.”
“I can’t stand the thought of my maternal grandparents being embarrassed.”
“It’s just a few days anyway. After the birthday banquet, my maternal grandparents will go talk to Rupert in person. It’s best if they can work things out. If not, I’ll file then.”
Fiona sighed, “Your maternal grandparents are good people, so your mom is a good person, and you’re a good person too.”
“Honestly, Aveline, I kind of wish you’d sign the property distribution agreement and then bring up the divorce later. Not getting a single penny from Xavier… I really feel it’s not fair to you.”
“But I know you’d never be willing to do that.”
Aveline laughed, “Of course not. I’ve already made it clear that I’m getting a divorce. What kind of person would I be if I went back on my word and signed the agreement now?”
Fiona scoffed, “Your family’s upbringing is too proper. In my family, dignity is important, but you also have to see if it’s worth it.”
“If those billions were what I deserved, I wouldn’t care about dignity.”
“Forget it. If you file for divorce, you’ll at least get something. It’s not as pitiful as waiving all claims to marital as- sets.”
“So, are you and your maternal grandparents going to the’s banquet on Friday night?”
Aveline replied to her, “No way we’re going.
You can deliver the birthday gift for me.”
“I’ll make it clear to Xavier. He wants me to let his grandfather have a good birthday celebration, so I’ll grant him that.”

Chapter 249
Collin and Paulina were sitting on the bed in their bedroom, the old couple unable to sleep.
Collin said with a grave expression, “Aveline is definitely hiding something from us.”
Paulina nodded, “I think so too.
Do you think we should ask Xavier?”

Collin glanced at her, “If Xavier did something to wrong Aveline, that would be why she wants to divorce him. What’s the use in asking him? Do you think he’d tell the truth?”
Paulina clutched her chest, “He wouldn’t be like Jacob, keeping a woman on the side, would he?”
Collin said in a deep voice, “If that’s the case, Aveline is right to divorce him.”
“Aveline is probably being considerate of us two old folks, that’s why she didn’t tell us the truth. She’s been planning to divorce for a while and didn’t tell us.”
“So, we need to stay calm, support her, and not let her worry about us.”
Paulina was sad that her granddaughter, like her daughter, might not have married a good man, but she knew her hus- band was right and nodded.
The next morning, Aveline had to rush back to Mount Ardwood. She drank a glass of milk, grabbed two Steamed Buns, and left.
She saw her maternal grandparents seemed to be in good spirits, probably having fully accepted and supported her de- cision to divorce, so she felt relieved.
While stopping for gas halfway, Aveline saw it was a good time and sent a message to Xavier,
[I’ve already told my maternal grandparents about the divorce.]
[My maternal grandparents are decent people. They advised me to wait until after the Patriarch’s birthday banquet, and I agreed.]
[If you don’t want me to file in court, have the divorce papers ready before next Monday.]
Xavier had just walked into the conference room and sat down when he heard his phone buzz with a notification, three times in a row. He took it out of his suit pocket to look.
Seeing it was from Aveline, he paused, then smiled.
It was rare for her to text him.
Of course, it was only rare for the past three months. She used to text him all the time. Xavier tapped to read the message, and his smile vanished. He couldn’t smile anymore. Aveline had told Collin and Mr. Li. That meant she was serious, not just throwing a tantrum. Actually, when he saw her signature on the divorce papers last night, he knew she wasn’t just upset.

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
