Halfway through the meal, Xavier’s phone rang. He glanced at it, saw it was a call from Amy, and got up to take it outside.

Leona saw this and leaned close to Josephine, whispering, “Here’s your chance. You should go out too, see if you can get a word with him.”

Josephine nodded, put down her cup, lightly dabbed her mouth with a napkin, and then got up

and walked out.

Jane saw this, her suspicious gaze following Josephine’s back until she walked out of the private dining room.
