Actually, Aveline had promised to do her design work while taking care of the family, which is why she opened a stu- dio, not a company.

In front of the Patriarch, she didn’t argue with him. She took the Sweet Corn Drink and poured a glass for him.

After that, she poured a glass for herself, then placed the bottle on the lazy Susan in front of Xavier without pouring for anyone else.

Lauren and Leona immediately shot sharp glares at Aveline.

Aveline ignored them.

She used to serve them, but not anymore.

Brielle quickly spun the lazy Susan to get the bottle of Sweet Corn Drink and poured for everyone else.

Xavier looked at Aveline, smiled, and looked away.

Out of the corner of her eye, Aveline saw the Patriarch glance at her too, but she didn’t care.

She had to make a stand, so the wouldn’t think she was just throwing a tantrum and would go back to being their meek little daughter–in–law.

After eating for a while, the Patriarch spoke up. “Just a studio? Are you planning to open a company?”

Aveline nodded. “Yes, I’m already preparing to open a company.”

Lauren’s voice rose. “You’re opening a company too?

Are you trying to be some kind of career woman?”

The Patriarch gave Lauren a stern look.

Lauren pressed her lips together and lowered her eyes.

The Patriarch said, “Opening a company requires funding, right?

Do you need any financial help?”

Leona curled her lip contemptuously, clearly thinking Aveline would take the Patriarch up on his offer for financial help.

Aveline glanced at her and replied to the Patriarch, “No, thank you. Our studio just landed a project with Crestmark. The design fee is over twenty million, which is more than enough to start a design company.”

Lauren and Leona looked at Aveline in astonishment, both wondering if she was making it all up to fool the Patriarch.

The Patriarch said, “Sebastian of Crestmark is a talented architect himself. For him to choose you for a major project with a design fee of over twenty million, you must be very talented.”

With that, the Patriarch looked at Xavier. “Did you know your wife was this capable?”

Xavier smiled faintly. “I only knew she graduated from the architecture department at Entora University.”

Brielle smiled, “Xavier, you really don’t know your wife at all. Even I know Aveline is an amazing architect, she’s even getting famous internationally now.”

Xavier smiled, “Then why didn’t you

Aveline looked down and ate, her expression calm.

This was how Xavier always was in front of the Patriarch; if the Patriarch blamed him for not treating her well, he would always admit he was wrong.

Lauren and Leona’s expressions turned ugly, because it seemed from the Patriarch’s attitude that he supported Aveline having a career.

Lauren couldn’t stay silent any longer. “Dad, she’s already got the Crestmark project. If you put her on a Beltran Group project too, when will she have time to take care of Xavier and give the an heir?”
