Urging Him to Get a Divorce (Aveline and Xavier) novel Chapter 69

Chapter 69

The Patriarch said, I’m not in a hurry for a greatgrandchild, so why are you?

Lauren was speechless.

Xavier looked at Aveline. Do you want to tell the Patriarch yourself?

Aveline turned away coldly, ignoring him.

Xavier smiled faintly and looked up at the Patriarch. She’s probably shy, too embarrassed to say it herself.

Bernard Clarke recommended her. So she’s the architect for that project.

Lauren looked at Aveline in shock.

Leona exclaimed, What? You gave the project to Aveline?

Xavier, it’s a project worth tens of billions! Do you think this is a game?

Didn’t Josie recommend a great architect? Why didn’t you pick them?

In her panic, Leona forgot the Patriarch couldn’t stand Josephine. Seeing him turn to her with a grim face, she flinched, pursed her lips, and looked down, not daring to make a sound.

The Patriarch said, If even Bernard Clarke holds Aveline in such high regard, it seems the is about to produce a re- markable architect.

I say, you don’t need to have an outside firm anymore. We’ll set up a department for you in the, or even a whole de- sign company.

Lauren and Leona’s expressions soured even more.

But they didn’t dare to object; after all, the Patriarch’s temper was not something they could challenge.

Xavier glanced at Aveline and smiled, Well, since Grandpa has given his word, of course it’s a great idea.

Aveline had to turn to look at him, her gaze cold, questioning what he was trying to pull. They were about to get a di-

vorce.

Xavier met her cold stare with just a smile, as if he couldn’t read her expression at all, then picked up his Sweet Corn Drink and took a sip.

Aveline put down her fork, turned to the Patriarch, and said seriously, Patriarch, maybe Xavier hasn’t told you. Since he hasn’t, I will. The Beltran Group can’t open a new department or company for me, because he and I are getting a divorce.

It was understandable that the Patriarch didn’t know. Xavier probably thought that since the Patriarch liked her, he wouldn’t agree to the divorce, so he might have planned to tell him only after it was official.

But Lauren and Leona knew full well and were pretending otherwise, which she found infuriating.

Rupert’s face instantly grew grave; he glanced at her, then stared at Xavier as if asking him what was going on.

Brielle asked in astonishment, You two are getting a divorce?

Lauren and Leona glared at Aveline, their faces dark, clearly blaming her for telling the Patriarch about this.

Xavier put down his cup and turned to look at Aveline, his dark eyes deep and heavy, as if surprised she had been so blunt with Rupert.

Aveline sneered inwardly.

She didn’t know if Xavier was just pretending, or if he genuinely thought she didn’t have the guts to say it.

Rupert said in a deep voice, Xavier, what’s going on?

Xavier didn’t answer Rupert right away. He gave Aveline another deep look, then smiled as if out of helplessness, looking up at the Patriarch,

Grandpa, I’ll have a proper talk with her later.

Rupert fell silent, continuing to eat with a grim expression.

The atmosphere in the private dining room was heavy.

Aveline noticed Lauren and Leona glaring at her as if they wanted to tear her apart, but she didn’t care, her expression cold.

After a moment, Rupert put down his fork. Everyone else knew this meant he was angry and had lost his appetite, so they all put down their forks too.

Rupert picked up his teacup, took a sip, and set it down. We’re going back to the mansion tonight. Leona and Brielle have children to look after, so you two can go home.

With that, he stood up.

The butler, who had been silent and almost invisible the entire time, hurried over to assist him, staying by his side in case he stumbled as they walked out of the private dining room.

Leona deliberately walked up to Aveline and whispered with hatred, You’re really something, hiding your true self so well.

Aveline knew what she meant. It was the same old accusation she’d been hearing latelythat she had been putting on an act before getting the marriage certificate and was now showing her true colors.

Aveline’s expression was cold. She didn’t even spare Leona a glance and walked straight out.

In the parking lot, everyone first saw Rupert off to his car.
