Urging Him to Get a Divorce (Aveline and Xavier) novel Chapter 710

Courtney glanced at Josephine’s pale, drawn face and, sensing her daughter’s distress, answered Gerald on her behalf. “Gerald, you should get back to work. We’ll have a talk with Eileen ourselves.”

Gerald nodded but added, “Also, could you let us review that surveillance footage?”

“Of course,” he replied without hesitation. He reached into his briefcase and pulled out a flash drive, handing it over to Courtney. “I’ve already made a copy.”

Then, with a slight hesitation, he said, “Since I’m representing Eileen, it’s probably best if I explain everything to her personally.”

Courtney gave a small nod. “That makes sense. I’ll tell Eileen to come by your law office to meet with you.”

Gerald paused for a moment, considering, then said, “Alright. I’m quite tied up today anyway. If Eileen can’t make it to the firm, just let me know, and we’ll arrange another time.”

Turning to Josephine, he offered a faint reassurance, “Josie, don’t worry too much just yet. I only just got this new evidence and haven’t had a chance to examine it thoroughly. It might not even hold up.”

“Once I’ve reviewed everything, we can figure out our next move.”

Josephine, overwhelmed and distracted, barely registered his words; she simply nodded in vague agreement.

After Gerald left, Courtney urged Josephine to quickly fetch a laptop so they could watch the footage together.

Snapping out of her daze, Josephine hurried upstairs, her footsteps echoing lightly in the quiet house. When she returned, breathless, she asked Courtney anxiously, “Mom, what are we going to do if the judge accepts this evidence?”

“Eileen isn’t going to claim I pushed her into this just to get a lighter sentence, is she?”

Courtney’s expression hardened. “Don’t ask me that right now. Let’s just watch the video first.”

The technician’s analysis was meticulous and detailed. As Courtney and Josephine watched the footage, their faces fell in disbelief. It was clear—Eileen had deliberately stuck her leg out.

There was room for legal debate, of course, but they had no idea how the judge would interpret this.

To Courtney and Josephine, who knew the truth, it was painfully obvious that Eileen had tripped Aveline.

Josephine gripped her mother’s hand tightly. “Mom, what do we do now?”

Tears threatening to spill, she whispered, “I don’t want to go to jail, Mom. This could mean a long sentence, right?”

“I don’t want to spend even one day—no, not a single minute—in prison.”

“If I get a criminal record, my life is over.”

Courtney’s voice was steady but grim. “Calm down. It’s not time to panic yet.”

Despite her mother’s words, Josephine’s mind was racing. Panic churned inside her, refusing to settle.

“We’re not the experts,” Courtney continued, trying to soothe her daughter. “Let’s wait to hear from Gerald first.”

Courtney frowned slightly. “There’s no need to yell. Calm down.”

Eileen snapped back, “You want me to calm down? How can I possibly stay calm right now?”

“Josie, can you keep your composure? Is this going to court?” Eileen asked anxiously.

Josephine nodded. “This is new evidence that Aveline’s side submitted to the court.”

Eileen’s face drained of color. “Holy crap, I’m doomed.”

She couldn’t sit still, her nerves fraying. She stood and began pacing the room.

“How was this even possible before? How could this exist now?”

“Josie, have you and Xavier had a falling out? Is he not helping you anymore?”

“Damn it, you’re going to be the death of me.”

“I don’t want to go to jail.”

“If I end up behind bars, you’re coming with me.”
