Chapter 711
Josephine’s heart sank as she listened to Eileen’s accusations, a deep fear gripping her. She glanced anxiously at her mother, Courtney, searching for reassurance.
Courtney’s expression hardened, her voice firm and unwavering. “What exactly are you implying?”
Eileen’s words cut through the tense air. “Josie won’t be the one going to jail. And we’ll do everything we can to protect you as well.”
There was a sharp edge to that statement, and Courtney caught it immediately. She turned to Eileen, her eyes narrowing. “What are you trying to say? That Josie won’t face prison time, but I might?”
Courtney’s voice was steady but carried an unmistakable warning. “I already told you—we’ll do our best to keep you safe.”
Eileen’s frustration boiled over. “Do our best? That’s not good enough. You *will* protect me. Absolutely, without question.”
“I’m telling you, I’m not going down alone,” Courtney said coldly, her gaze hardening. “If I’m dragged down, I’m taking someone with me.”
Eileen’s anger flared. “From the very beginning, I told Josie there was no need to force Aveline to have a miscarriage. Maybe she wasn’t even pregnant.”
“But Josie was relentless, like she’d lost her mind. She insisted Aveline had to lose the baby. Said if Aveline carried Xavier’s child, she’d never be able to cut ties with him completely.”
“She even said she didn’t want to raise Aveline’s child for her.”
Eileen’s voice cracked with bitterness. “Look at Aveline now—she’s thriving. The lead architect on that huge Crestmark project. Even with a child, after divorcing Xavier, she’s more than capable of supporting her own kid.”
Courtney knew better than to let Eileen ramble on, so she cut in sharply, “Enough. What’s the point of dredging all this up now?”
“We’re just laying out the facts,” Courtney explained. “Gerald said we need to wait for the technician’s analysis. He’s going to defend us, but the judge might not even accept this evidence.”
Eileen wasn’t convinced. “That’s it? What if the judge believes it and sentences me to jail?”
“I’m telling you, if I’m found guilty, I will testify that Josephine was behind it all.”
Courtney frowned, and Josephine’s voice trembled, “Paternal cousin, are you out of your mind? I was just talking back then. If you hadn’t agreed, none of this would have happened.”
“But you asked me for money, I gave it to you, and then you went and did it,” Eileen snapped.
“I never expected you to be so bold,” she added, fury flashing in her eyes.
Courtney shot Josephine a sharp look, clearly annoyed at her outburst.
Josephine pursed her lips, letting out a derisive snort.
Eileen’s laughter turned colder. “Fine, go to jail then. You don’t owe me a single cent.”
“In fact, if someone offered me a hundred million to go to jail, I’d refuse without hesitation.”
“Josie’s freedom is worth only a hundred million to you, but mine? Mine is priceless.”
Furious, Josephine grabbed a throw pillow and flung it at Eileen. “Are you seriously messing with me?”
“First you want money, then you don’t.”
For Josephine, if it came to the worst-case scenario—if Eileen demanded a hundred million not to expose her as the mastermind—she was ready to pay. She trusted her mother had the means and would do whatever it took to protect her.
Eileen caught the pillow with a sneer. “Why don’t you come up with that hundred million first, then?”

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
