Urging Him to Get a Divorce (Aveline and Xavier) novel Chapter 713

Chapter 713

Miranda picked up the phone, and Xavier’s voice came through, calm yet probing. “Is Aveline back at Mount Ardwood?”

With a hint of irritation, Miranda shot back, “Why don’t you just call Aveline yourself and ask?”

Xavier chuckled softly on the other end. “Honestly, I’m not really trying to find her.”

Miranda muttered under her breath, *If you’re not looking for her, then why call me?* But she kept it to herself.

He continued, “I just returned from Singapore. I’ve brought some things for the maternal grandparents and Aveline. I’m heading over now.”

Miranda sighed, feeling the weight of the afternoon settling in. “Amy and I haven’t eaten yet. Could you make a couple of bowls of pasta for us?”

Before she could say more, the line went dead. Xavier had already hung up.

Meanwhile, Collin and Paulina were deep in their afternoon naps. Aveline had left early that morning to handle some transfer paperwork and hadn’t returned for lunch. The house was quiet except for the soft hum of the air conditioner and the occasional creak of settling wood.

Miranda exhaled heavily, resigned to the task ahead, and made her way to the kitchen to prepare lunch for Xavier.

As Xavier walked down the street, his phone buzzed again. It was Gerald.

“Xavier, that so-called evidence—you fabricated it, didn’t you?” Gerald’s voice was sharp, accusatory.

Xavier’s tone remained cool, almost detached. “What exactly do you mean by ‘fabricated’?”

“You faked it. We’ve all seen the surveillance footage, the police reviewed it too, and no one found any issues. The police were even leaning towards mediation.”

Xavier’s voice dropped to a low, almost mocking tone. “Do you think the police necessarily have the technical expertise to catch every detail?”

“Xavier, falsifying evidence is illegal.”

“Gerald, I’m no lawyer, but even I know that. Tell Josephine to beg my wife for forgiveness. If Aveline forgives her, then I can forgive her too.”

There was a pause, then Gerald snapped, “What does this have to do with Josie?”

Xavier didn’t answer—he simply ended the call.

Gerald quickly fired off a text: *You don’t seriously believe Josie had Eileen do this, do you?*
*Do you think Josie is that kind of person?*
*She saved you, for crying out loud. She’s kind and upright.*
*What nonsense has Aveline been feeding you lately?*

Xavier ignored the messages.

Moments later, another text arrived: *Perfect. Aveline is at the law firm. I’ll ask her.*

Xavier froze, his heart skipping a beat. He immediately called Gerald back, but this time, Gerald hung up on him.

It was the first time in his life that Gerald had ever done that.

“I’m a lawyer here too! I’m her colleague! Why can’t I see her?” Gerald’s voice was sharp and demanding.

The secretary outside explained patiently, “Mr. Henderson, Ms. Harmon is with a client discussing a case.”

Gerald’s frustration boiled over. “Isn’t Aveline in there? I have business with her. Don’t block me—just announce me.”

Fiona scoffed and said to Katie, “Go ahead and open the door. Let’s see what he wants.”

Katie nodded and opened the door. “Mr. Henderson, Ms. Harmon said you can come in.”

Gerald stepped inside, his face grim, eyes flicking over Aveline and Fiona.

“That evidence—it’s fake, isn’t it?” he demanded.

Aveline shot him a cold glance before turning away, deliberately ignoring him.

Fiona laughed softly. “Couldn’t afford to hire a technician to verify it? You came all this way just to ask me?”

“Try saying that in court and see if the judge buys it.”

Gerald took a seat, his gaze hardening as he looked at Aveline. “Aveline, Xavier has already dumped Josie. You don’t have to push this so far.”
