Chapter 72
So early in the morning, he looked devastatingly handsome and sexy, like a demon.
He hadn’t even worked out, why was he taking a shower for no reason?
Seeing her look over, he said flatly, “What are you so busy with? Are you planning to pack this stuff up to sell?”
Aveline coldly averted her gaze and started pulling the suitcase towards the door.
Xavier said, “Don’t be in such a hurry to leave. You still have to eat breakfast with the Patriarch.”
Aveline didn’t look back. “The show is over.”
Xavier said unhurriedly, “If the Patriarch doesn’t see you at breakfast, he’ll think I made you angry and left, and his blood pressure will definitely shoot up.”
Aveline paused for a moment, then continued walking.
Downstairs, she placed the suitcase under the caves by the main entrance, then went back to the living room to sit and wait for breakfast.
Since she was already here, she might as well finish the act completely. She would never come back again.
When Xavier came downstairs, he saw her sitting on the sofa scrolling through her phone and smiled.
He walked over to the long sofa where she was sitting, sat down just a hand’s breadth away from her, and picked up a newspaper from the coffee table to read.
With a cold expression, Aveline got up and moved to a single armchair.
Xavier looked at her and chuckled, “Am I some kind of wild beast?”
Aveline didn’t even spare him a glance and continued looking at her Social Feed.
She saw that Fiona had posted a photo with Sebastian. The man was handsome, the woman beautiful, smiling brightly in the sunlight, with the caption:
[Morning run with my big bro. All of last night’s alcohol has evaporated. Feeling great.]
”
Aveline liked the post and commented: [I know you can hold your liquor, but don’t drink every day.]
Just then, Xavier’s phone rang. He answered it quickly, “Hello. Yeah. Good morning.”
“Yeah, I’m still at the Beltran’s mansion.”
“I’ll go to work after having breakfast with the Patriarch.”

“Okay.”
Then, Aveline couldn’t hear his voice anymore. She figured he’d hung up.
Even though she couldn’t hear the person on the other end, she guessed from his gentle tone it was probably Josephine.
There was a noise from the stairs. Aveline looked up to see Rupert and Lauren coming down.
Even though Rupert was holding onto the handrail, the butler stayed right by his side, just in case.
“You two are up so early?”
Aveline replied to the Patriarch, “Yes, good morning.”
Then she saw Lauren, behind the Patriarch, give her a dark look.
Aveline looked away, paying it no mind.
Xavier had already walked over to the Patriarch, offering his arm to help him down the stairs.
Rupert said, “Let’s go have breakfast.”

The Patriarch sat at the head of the table, Lauren sat next to him, so Aveline walked to the seat opposite Lauren, leav- ing the two seats closest to the Patriarch empty.
She figured Xavier would sit next to the Patriarch, leaving an empty seat between them.
To her surprise, Xavier pulled out the chair beside her and sat down.
Aveline couldn’t help but turn to look at him, only to see him watching her with a faint smile, as if mocking her little plan.
Aveline coldly looked away. She couldn’t possibly move seats in front of the Patriarch.
Xavier knew this, which was why he had deliberately sat next to her.
Breakfast at the Beltran’s mansion was always Chinese–style; Aveline asked for a glass of milk and some potstickers.
Rupert took a sip of his rice congee and asked, “Did you sleep well last night?”
Aveline didn’t know if he was asking her or Xavier, so she looked up. The Patriarch was looking her way, though he could have been looking at Xavier next to her.
Xavier remained silent, so Aveline had no choice but to reply, “It was good.”

Lauren looked over at them and asked out of the blue, “You two aren’t using birth control, are you?”
Aveline froze, speechless. She hadn’t expected Lauren to be so blunt.
In the past, hearing Lauren ask something like this would have made her feel shy, but now she just felt annoyed and
awkward.

She said nothing, and neither did Xavier. She didn’t look at him, so she didn’t know how he was reacting
Lauren frowned, “Why aren’t you two saying anything?
You’re not using birth control, are you?

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
