“I had no choice but to tell the Patriarch that Ms. Josephine was the one who saved Mr. Beltran. Ms. Beltran pressured me into it. Are you upset with me because of that?” Aveline’s voice trembled slightly as she confessed.
Bryan sighed deeply, exhaustion and frustration weighing on him. “I didn’t have any alternatives. Things aren’t going well for me right now. The Heiress forced my hand—I couldn’t refuse. I’m just a nobody in all this. How could I possibly go against the heiress of the family?”
Aveline’s eyes softened with a flicker of hope. “Since fate brought us together like this, maybe you’re the savior God sent my way. Ms. Sutton, please… I need your help.”
She stepped out of the car, the cool evening air brushing against her face as she made her way toward the gas station’s mini-mart, fingers already fumbling into her purse to pull out her phone.
Bryan, sensing an opportunity, quickly followed. As she took out her phone, he lunged forward, trying to snatch it from her grasp.
But Aveline was quick. Catching the movement out of the corner of her eye, she dodged his reach and shouted fiercely, “What do you think you’re doing? Don’t even try anything! I swear, I’ll call the police right now!”
She broke into a run toward the mini-mart, the small store’s bright fluorescent lights promising safety.
Inside the sleek black sedan parked nearby, two investigators exchanged shocked glances, watching Bryan’s behavior unfold.
“That guy’s not just a gambler; he’s a creep,” one muttered under his breath.
“Should we intervene?” the other asked, concern flickering in his eyes.
“If we step in now, he’ll know we’re tailing him,” the first replied cautiously.
“Come on, Bryan must already suspect he’s being watched by Mr. Beltran’s people,” the second countered.
“True, but he hasn’t seen our faces yet. And that woman… she’s smart, running inside like that.”
“Alright, if things get worse, we’ll step in then.”
Meanwhile, a female employee inside the gas station noticed Aveline rushing in, breathless and clearly distressed, with a man trailing not far behind.
“Miss, what’s wrong?” she asked, concern evident in her voice.
Aveline gasped for breath, “That man is harassing me. He won’t let me leave.”
“Come inside. You’re safe here,” the employee urged, guiding her into the store.
She then signaled to a male coworker, who came over immediately.
Seeing this, Bryan muttered, “I know her.”
Aveline planted herself firmly at the supermarket entrance, eyes cold and steady. “I don’t know you. Stay back. I’m not afraid to call the police.”
Aveline kept glancing nervously in her rearview mirror as she drove, the tension mounting with every passing second. Bryan’s car stayed stubbornly close behind.
A cold curse escaped her lips. “Damn it, is this guy insane?”
She gritted her teeth. “Fine. If you keep following me, and dare to harass me again when we reach Mount Ardwood, I’ll make sure you end up in jail. I’m the Heiress, and I’ve already sent a few scumbags behind bars this year.”
The city lights dimmed as they neared Mount Ardwood. In the car behind, the driver squinted ahead. “Is he really going to Mount Ardwood?”
“Looks like it,” the passenger replied.
The driver frowned. “Could the woman Bryan is bothering be Mr. Beltran’s wife?”
The passenger’s eyes widened in shock. “No way… Isabella?”
“Get a picture of that license plate. We’ll send it to Amy and check if it’s the wife’s car.”
At that moment, Amy had just dropped Xavier off at The Croft Tower. He planned to grab a coffee at the first-floor café before heading to his next appointment.
His phone buzzed in his pocket, but he didn’t rush to check it. First, he found a seat by the window, ordered his coffee, and only then pulled out his phone to see who was calling.

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
