Urging Him to Get a Divorce (Aveline and Xavier) novel Chapter 724

He glanced at his phone and noticed a message from the investigator tailing Bryan: [Amy, is this license plate number from Mr. Beltran’s wife’s car?]

[Blue Porsche.]

Amy studied the photo, a frown creasing her brow. [Yes, that’s definitely her car. Why?]

Shouldn’t they be monitoring Bryan instead?

Could it be that Mrs. Beltran went searching for Bryan?

The phone rang almost immediately. Amy answered without hesitation, “What’s going on? Did Mrs. Beltran go after Bryan?”

The investigator’s voice came through, tinged with uncertainty. “Amy, are you absolutely sure this is Mr. Beltran’s wife’s car?”

“Positive. One hundred percent.”

A flicker of regret crossed the investigator’s mind—he wished he had stepped in earlier at the gas station to protect the woman instead of just observing.

“Amy, it wasn’t Mrs. Beltran who approached Bryan. It was Bryan who followed her.”

Amy’s heart skipped a beat. “What happened?”

“Early this morning, for some unknown reason, Bryan left the city and stopped at a gas station. Mrs. Beltran was there too, filling up her tank. Bryan walked over to her car and tried to talk to her.”

“He couldn’t see her face clearly because she was wearing sunglasses, and since we’ve never met her in person, we didn’t realize who she was. We just assumed Bryan was flirting with some random woman.”

Amy’s anger flared. “What on earth are you saying? What exactly did Bryan say to Mrs. Beltran?”

“We were inside the car, so we couldn’t hear their conversation. But Mrs. Beltran looked genuinely frightened. She ran into the convenience store attached to the gas station, and later, an employee had to escort her back to her vehicle.”

“Right now, Bryan is following her car again. They’re almost at Mount Ardwood.”

Amy sprang to her feet, alarm evident in her voice. “Are you guys following them too?”

“Of course. We’ve been tracking Bryan the entire time.”

“If Bryan even tries to get close to Mrs. Beltran, you protect her at all costs. I’m going to inform Mr. Beltran immediately.”

She hurried off. Xavier had already retreated into a conference room for a meeting. Amy hadn’t known about it earlier, so she headed straight to the Executive Office.

Not spotting Ryan, she assumed he was inside Mr. Beltran’s office. She knocked, but no response came from within.

A secretary nearby noticed her and said, “Amy, Mr. Beltran is in a meeting.”

Out of breath, Amy asked, “Which conference room?”

But Xavier’s thoughts drifted beyond the project. There was someone else at Mount Ardwood he cared about deeply: Aveline.

Rising from his seat, he exited the conference room and asked Amy, “What’s the matter?”

Amy explained, “The investigator following Bryan just called. Bryan left the city early this morning and confronted your wife at a gas station on the way to Mount Ardwood. Now he’s trailing her car again.”

Xavier’s face hardened. “They’re still on the road?”

“What does Bryan want?” he demanded.

Amy answered, “I instructed the investigator to stay close and protect your wife.”

Xavier’s jaw tightened. “I suppose since you refused to give him the money, he’s resorting to harassing your wife.”

His fury simmered beneath a cold, steely exterior. “He’s got some nerve.”

Turning to Ryan, he ordered, “Cancel the meeting.”

Ryan was momentarily stunned, unable to respond before Xavier strode away.

As Xavier moved, he said to Amy, “We’re heading to Mount Ardwood now.”
