Chapter 80
Ashley lowered her head. “Yes…”
Her eyes welled up.’Grandma, I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault,” Amanda said, stroking Ashley’s face. “You all underestimated their depravity.”
“Grandma…
“It’s alright,” Amanda said, surveying the sparsely populated restaurant. Her expression was calm and resolute.”It’s just a birthday. It doesn’t matter how we celebrate. As long as you’re all well, I’ll be happy. The rest is meaningless.”
“And I’ll say it again-don’t let their wickedness punish you, understand?” This echoed what had happened to Lucy.
Ashley and Steve understood.”Yes, Grandma.”
Ashley had also given invitations to Tim and Cindy. They’d just arrived, fully aware of the situation.
Cindy cursed. They’re despicable and shameless! I’ve never seen such disgusting people!”
Tim patted Ashley’s shoulder comfortingly. A moment later, his phone buzzed. After reading the message, he paused. “I’ll get someone for you.”
Ashley was puzzled. “Huh?”
Tim smiled. You’ll see.”
Meanwhile, at the Holden family’s place…
The Holdens were beaming at the constant stream of arriving guests. As Ashley had suspected, they hadn’t forgotten Amanda’s birthday. The housewarming date was deliberate.
They seethed recalling their thwarted plan to live opposite the Jones family.
It was all because of Ashley! However, Chase had compensated them, turning a setback into an advantage.
Thinking about their carefully planned housewarming, stealing guests from Amanda’s birthday party, their mood improved further.
Catherine Holden whispered, laughing, “There must be hardly anyone left at Amanda’s party now, huh? They did so much for that party, only to lose their guests.
How embarrassing! Once word gets out that the Joneses are declining and have lost their connections, who will do business with them again?”
Ruby patted her hand, also laughing.”Exactly.”
Although many powerful figures were invited, the Holdens didn’t know most of them. The housewarming was a networking opportunity.
Tanya wore the diamond necklace Chase had bought at the auction. News of his extravagant spending had spread. Many wanted to ingratiate themselves with her.
That necklace suits you perfectly. Mr. Sterling has excellent taste,” one guest fawned. Tanya was beautiful; she looked stunning in anything. The necklace complemented her elegance.
Thank you, Tanya replied.
Many had done their research, knowing Miranda’s love for antiques.”I heard your grandmother loves antiques. Was that antique vase at the auction a gift from Mr. Sterling?”
Tanya nodded. “Yes.” The vase had delighted Miranda. It was a priceless piece, a testament to Chase’s extravagance and love towards Tanya.
Mary felt a pang of jealousy. Miranda had a priceless vase; she had nothing. But she remembered Tanya mentioning two other items Chase had bought, each over ten million. Chase knew about their housewarming; at least one of those items was likely for them. Mary’s spirits lifted.
Zark and Ethan arrived. The Holdens and Monds rushed to greet them; both men held significant positions in the city and were highly valued. Catherine, who had met Zark before, blushed.
Even her carefully applied makeup was unable to conceal her infatuation. Ruby smiled while seeing that.
The Greens, like the Sterlings, were top-tier families. Zark was exceptionally eligible; Catherine’s affection for him was understandable.
With Tanya and Chase already a couple, and Catherine potentially with Zark, the Holdens’ position in the city would be insurmountable.
Their eagerness to impress Zark and Ethan intensified.
