Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 164

Chapter 142

Tim nodded. “Indeed.”

Vincent guessed, “You wouldn’t win against her.” Even though Tim was a prodigy.

Tim admitted honestly, “I wouldn’t.” Ashley had frequently played against Burke. She never won, but Burke said she was an exceptional player. The point was, she was so young. Burke, who was reportedly undefeated since his teens, rarely praised anyone so highly.

They were talking as Ashley and Chase tidied the board.

Chase said, “You go first?”

“No, you go first,” she replied.

She’d lost by more than one point; she wanted to see her limitations.

As Vincent suspected, Ashley hadn’t played much recently and she had rarely faced strong opponents since Burke. She didn’t want to miss this opportunity. To her, Chase was simply an opponent, nothing more. She wouldn’t pull any punches only because he was her ex.

Chase didn’t insist, making his move.

They played silently, without speaking. Yet, Vincent and Robert sensed a strange rapport between them, as though they were long-acquainted.

They looked from Chase to Ashley, then to Tanya, their brows furrowing slightly.

In the silence, Chase said, “Haven’t played in a while?”

Ashley, dissecting his strategy, hummed in response without looking up. She hadn’t played since marrying him.

You seem a little rusty,” Chase commented.

Ashley remained focused on the game. The situation was unfavorable. There seemed to be a clear path near Chase, but he’d laid hidden traps, waiting

for her to fall.

After a moment’s thought, she avoided his traps, placing a piece elsewhere. The situation shifted. Chase was now on the defensive. He raised an eyebrow, a faint smile playing on his lips before making his move. The game became tense once more.

After several moves, Ashley lost by a narrow margin.

“What a pity,” Vincent said.”But this game was more exciting than the last. Without the first-mover advantage, she anticipated her opponent’s strategy and used hidden moves to disrupt his attacks. She has impressive observation, memory, and strategic thinking at such a young age.” He then declared, “Even I couldn’t beat her,”

Robert nodded. “I know.” He wouldn’t have played as effectively as Ashley against Chase.

As Ashley packed up the pieces, Chase said, “Another game?” Tanya’s lips tightened. Before Ashley could respond, someone suggested, “You were so close! You may win the next game!”

Ashley shook her head. “No.” The game had been close, but she wasn’t sure if her perceived understanding of Chase’s strategy was a deliberate illusion created by him.

Ashley left without looking back. Robert filled the empty seat.

Tim approached. “Refreshments?”

“Okay, Ashley agreed.

Vincent, noticing their closeness, commented, “Mr. Reed is fortunate.”

Robert agreed. They’d thought Tanya was impressive, but Ashley was even better. They were on different levels. Ashley was calm, intelligent, and poised, suggesting an excellent upbringing. They considered asking if she had a boyfriend, but before they could act, they saw Tim walk to her.

Vincent said, ‘A good match, too.”

*Indeed,” Robert replied. He then glanced at Tanya. While she was confident and charming, she seemed somewhat impetuous. He preferred Ashley, who was always calm

Yonnie and Mark approached Ashley and Tim shortly after. They believed Ashley’s challenge to Chase was an attempt to delay their divorce. Chase’s apparent softening towards her during the game was a positive sign. They wanted to talk to her.
