Chapter 206
Emily’s birthday arrived soon. Thanks to Chase’s suggestion, Sam prepared a gift for Emily. He presented it to her first thing in the morning.
Emily smiled. Thank you, Sam.”
Chase presented his gift, too. “This is from me and Ashley. Happy birthday, Grandma.”

Emily glanced at him. Before she could speak, the butler entered with two gift boxes.”Madam, these are gifts from Mrs. Amanda Jones and Mrs. Ashley Sterling. They couldn’t be here in person.”
Emily took the gifts and looked at Chase. Though she knew he was trying to please her by mentioning Ashley, she’d stopped forcing him to be with Ashley.
She said dryly, “Ashley is more thoughtful than you thought.” She turned away.
Chase smiled. He urged Sam to eat quickly, as he’d take him to school.
Ashley went to the office. Shortly after arriving, she and Tim went to Speed. Tanya was already there. She greeted only Tim.”Mr. Reed, hello.”
Tanya was cheerful and showed no disappointment about missing Emily’s birthday party. Tim just ignored her and went to work with Ashley.
Tim thought Ashley made the right choice not to attend Emily’s birthday party. That evening, he joined his parents at the party. They arrived early. The Sterlings took the celebration seriously; most family members, including Sam, were present. Tim hadn’t seen Sam in a couple of years. He found that Sam looked more and more like Chase.
The Sterlings greeted the Reeds. After pleasantries, Wendy’s gaze fell upon Sam.
Wendy was Tim’s mother, who had liked Ashley since she became Burke’s student and hoped she would end up with Tim. But at that time, Tim told her hat Ashley was already in a relationship. Later, before she could react, Ashley was married. Wendy knew what had happened between Ashley and Chase and that Sam was Ashley’s son. Seeing Wendy looking at Sam, Emily said, “This is my great-grandson, Sam.”
Wendy smiled, stroking Sam’s head.”What a sweet child.”
