Chapter 335
Learning that Chase had rushed back from abroad specifically to give him a surprise, Sam finally cheered up.
He held his phone and excitedly ran downstairs.
Ashley watched, stopped in place for two seconds, then followed Sam downstairs to inform the gatekeeper to let Chase’s car in.
When Chase’s car drove into the Jones Garden, Sam ran out the door and excitedly rushed into Chase’s arms as he got out of the car.
Today was his birthday, but Chase hadn’t called even once, and Ashley had been busy outside all day. He felt that neither of them had him in their hearts, and he was wronged and sad.
As a result, he had been unhappy all day today.
Now, seeing Chase rush back from abroad specifically for his birthday, and feeling Chase’s care for him, Sam’s feelings of grievance welled up again, and his eyes immediately turned red.
Seeing Sam pounce into his arms, Chase reached out and rubbed his head, and when he squatted down to hug him, only then did he realize Sam was
crying.
Chase’s hand, which was rubbing his head, paused for a moment, and there was a bit of surprise in his eyes, but he quickly understood that besides him not calling him all day today, Ashley must have also done something that made him feel wronged and upset, which led to Sam crying out in grievance
when he saw him rush back.
Thinking of this, he looked up at Ashley, who was standing not far away and hadn’t come closer.
Ashley met his gaze, and said nothing.
Seeing Sam cry, she also understood that Sam felt neglected and was crying out of grievance, but she just watched, saying nothing, standing rooted to
the spot.
Seeing Ashley not speak and show no reaction to Sam crying out of grievance, he didn’t say anything, but quickly retracted his gaze and wiped Sam’s tears, saying, “Daddy didn’t call you to wish you a happy birthday right away, and didn’t rush back earlier. Daddy was bad, Daddy was wrong.”
Sam felt wronged, and it wasn’t entirely because of Chase.
But now he had someone to rely on, someone to comfort him, so the more Chase spoke, the more wronged Sam felt, and the louder he cried instead.
Hearing this, Chase didn’t tell him to stop crying; he just held him in his arms and gently patted his back to silently comfort him.
Sam cried for a bit, and once his aggrieved mood passed, he slowly started feeling better. His crying gradually got softer until he finally stopped.
Seeing he stopped crying, Chase let go of him and handed him the gift he’d prepared.
Sam was really happy to see the gift. After wiping his tears, he said, “Thank you, Dad.”
The father and son talked where they were, and Ashley just stood there watching, not getting any closer.
After talking for a bit, Chase asked Sam,”There’s still about an hour until midnight. Is there anything else you want to do?”
Sam listened, tilted his head, thought for a moment, then shook his head, “Nope.”
Chase glanced at Ashley standing over there, then asked, “Then in a bit, do you want to go back with Dad, or stay here with Mom?”
Sam paused, then looked at Ashley, who was standing over there.
Ashley didn’t make a sound, just quietly waited for him to choose.
Sam knew that Ashley no longer prioritized him in everything like before, but when he made a request, Ashley would actually try her best to fulfill it.
That is to say, Ashley still actually cared about him in her heart.
Thinking of this, he walked over to Ashley, held her hand, and said to Chase, “I want to stay here with Mom.”
Chase had no objections and looked at Ashley.
Sam’s birthday hadn’t passed yet, and what Sam just said was his true birthday wish for today.
He wanted to stay at the Jones Family’s house tonight, with her; there was no way she wouldn’t agree. Thinking of this, Ashley reached out and held his hand, saying, “Okay.”
