Chapter 346
Manu
It was uncertain when Emily would wake up.
Ashley waited with the others at the hospital for over an hour. Seeing that Emily still hadn’t woken up, Lily calmly told Ashley, “You should go back first. When Emily wakes up, or if there’s any other news, I’ll let you know.”
Ashley looked at Emily, lying in the hospital bed, hooked up to a ventilator. After checking her phone, she said, “It’s still early. I want to wait a little
longer.”
Hearing her say that, Lily didn’t say anything either.
Jake and Linda also stayed put.
Ashley waited until around eleven at night. After the doctor said Emily’s condition was more stable but she wasn’t waking soon, Ashley went back to
rest.
About an hour after Ashley left, Chase and Sam finally arrived at the hospital.
Chase already knew that Ashley had come to the hospital to see Emily.
Both he and Lily decided to stay and be with Emily, telling the butler to take Sam back home to rest.
This was the first time Sam had directly faced death since he could remember.
He looked at Emily in the hospital bed, hugged Chase’s waist, buried his face in his chest, eyes full of fear.”I don’t want to go back. I want to find Mom.
Chase lifted him onto his lap, checked the time, and said, “It’s almost 1 AM. Not sure if your mom’s asleep. We’ll have to ask her first.”
“Oh, then I’ll call Mom…”
Let Dad do it.”
“Okay.”
Chase picked up his phone and sent Ashley a message: [Are you asleep? Sam and I are at the hospital. I’m staying with Grandma tonight. Sam knows about her condition and is scared. He wants to come see you. Is that okay?]
Ashley wasn’t asleep yet. Worried about Emily, she felt wide awake despite the late hour.
When she was Sam’s age, her grandpa had a serious accident too.
Seeing Chase’s message, Ashley understood Sam’s fear and helplessness.
She replied:[Let him come over.]
Chase (Okay.]
As Ashley put her phone down and go downstairs to get water, Chase sent another message.
[About the divorce, should we delay for a few days?]
Ashley knew he meant waiting until Emily’s condition improved.
After a moment of hesitation, Ashley replied: “Okay.
Chase: Thanks.
This time, Ashley didn’t reply again.
Half an hour later, Sam arrived.
After Sam had his bath and was in bed, Ashley pulled him into her arms, stroked his little face, and said,”Go to sleep.”
This was actually the first time she had so actively held him close since she’d brought up divorcing Chase.
Nestled in Ashley’s arms, Sam felt a lot more secure.
He’d been running around with Chase all day and was already exhausted. Soon, he fell asleep in Ashley’s arms.
