Finally, as I began seeing double, the meeting was over. Alexander helped Gai and I to the car since we were stumbling around like it was our first time being drunk.

Just from the way Alexander was clenching his jaw, I knew that he was pissed. Of course, it wasn’t a good look that his assistants became horribly drunk at a business dinner, but it was partly the other men’s fault because they kept pressuring us to do shots.

When we were almost to the car, Gai leaned over and threw up in the bushes.

Alexander made a disgusted noise in the back of his throat, then helped me into the passenger seat of his car.

“Why did you drink so much?” he muttered as he clicked my seatbelt into place.

A shiver ran up my spine because his warm hands were touching my body.

“I took your shots so you didn’t have to,” I drunkenly explained. “That’s one of my roles as your head assistant.” I hiccuped. “I wanted to do a good job today.”

Alexander met my gaze. He was silent for a moment, and he seemed to be having an internal battle with himself. “Do you not want to be my girlfriend anymore?” he whispered. “Just tell me. I have to know.”

There was a rawness in his eyes that made my heart ache.

I had to fight myself from blurting out the truth. Of course, I wanted to be his girlfriend. I wanted to be with him for the rest of my life. But I didn’t want to say anything drunk that I’d later regret.

So, I just turned my head away from his probing gaze and pretended like I hadn’t heard his question.

My blood heated, and I hated to admit that his closeness and domineering tone turned me on. I shifted in my seat as warm anticipation coursed through my body. Even though my body was turned on by him ordering me around, my rational side was angered by him trying to tell me what to do. What made him think he was entitled to do something like that?
