### Chapter 14: Not Like the Others

Britney instinctively glanced at her phone when she heard the question. She remembered what Camren had said the night before he left for his business trip, but he hadn’t contacted her in days. He probably wasn’t

coming, she figured.

And yeah, he was such a busy guy. It was already a lot for him to do what he did for a wife by arrangement, so she couldn’t really expect him to keep every promise.

“He’s out of town on a business trip, so he probably won’t make it back in time,” Britney said.

Amaya stuck out her tongue. “Another business trip? I feel like I’ve heard that excuse somewhere before.”

Britney froze. Amaya was right. The last time she went to try on wedding dresses, Ryan also said he was on business trip, and that ended up being a huge “surprise.”

Seeing Britney’s expression darken, Amaya quickly added, “Britney, I didn’t mean anything by it.”

Britney shook her head, pushing down the heavy feeling in her chest. “It’s fine. I’m gonna go try on the dress.”

Linda’s wedding dress design was luxurious yet elegant. It perfectly showcased Britney’s figure while still

radiating the dress’s inherent grandeur.

The off–the–shoulder design highlighted Britney’s delicate collarbones and fair skin. The pleats at the waist

kept it from looking too thin, but more importantly, it was the skirt….

Britney had no idea what kind of cotton Linda used, but the skirt seemed to reflect different hues and soft colors from every angle, making her look like a dazzling fairy princess.

Linda couldn’t help but gasp. “Ms. Simpson, you look stunning.”

“That’s because your design is incredible,” Britney replied, genuinely surprised. This dress was truly beautiful and moving. She genuinely loved it.

“A great design also needs the right person to wear it. Ms. Simpson, you are truly beautiful,” Linda complimented sincerely.

“Thanks.” Britney didn’t feign modesty. “Let’s go out. I wanna show Amaya.”

“Sure.”

Britney carefully dragged the wide, soft skirt, watching her step. But then, she tripped on the hem and tumbled forward…

Just as Britney braced herself for an embarrassing fall, she landed in a warm embrace. The subtle scent of cologne, familiar yet foreign, filled her nostrils.

The cologne was distinct, clearly custom–made. She’d only started noticing it recently around Veylin Manor

It was Camren’s signature cologne.

Strong, firm arms were wrapped securely around her waist. She looked up and met a pair of deep, dark eyes. His usual powerful aura was there, but she noticed a hint of fatigue in his brow. Had he rushed back?

“Watch out.”

“Oh.” Britney snapped out of it, quickly standing upright. That’s when she realized Camren had already. changed into a groom’s tuxedo that perfectly matched the wedding dress.

The traditional black suit had many subtle design elements that cleverly integrated the wedding dress theme.

For example, the cuffs were part of the diamond–studded fabric of the wedding dress, and the subtly iridescent material on the lapel was identical to the dress’s main cotton. Even the lapel pin echoed the

Britney found herself zoning out until Camren placed a jeweled necklace around her neck.

“I saw it at an auction and thought it would suit you, so I bought it,” Camren said flatly, as if he hadn’t bought

a piece of jewelry, but rather some cheap cabbage at a roadside market.

Amaya’s eyes widened. “Is that the one I saw in that magazine…? The legendary one worn by a royal princess…? What was it called…?”

*Stellaré,” Linda provided the exact name.

“Yes, yes, yes!” Amaya nodded repeatedly. “No wonder it’s a world–class jewel. It’s so dazzling, sparkling with its own sound effects!”

Camren turned to Amaya, his thin lips slightly parted. “Amaya Brooks?”

His deep voice carried a natural chill that made Amaya immediately stop smiling and stand at attention. “I… I

am.”

Seeing this, Britney couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle.

Amaya was usually a fearless, devil–may–care kind of person, so it was rare to see her so well–behaved. Camren’s presence definitely had a powerful, intimidating effect.

Camren handed a small bag to Amaya. “A little something for you, since it’s our first time meeting ”

“For me?” Amaya pointed at herself. When she saw Camren nod, she took it, overwhelmed, and opened it Instantly, she felt like he was glowing, and his cold voice had become sweet music to her ears.
