##Chapter 15: Something’s Off

Late at night, Veylin Manor.

Camren stood by the floor–to–ceiling window in his study, phone in hand, his face dark as he listened to his

assistant’s report.

“We found the surveillance footage from that day; it’s already been sent to your phone.”

“Ms. Simpson jumped out a window to leave the Simpson residence. The Simpsons can’t find her right now, but the wedding isn’t off, though Ryan seems to be completely unaware of all this.”

Camren watched Britney in the villa’s courtyard. She was bent over, rubbing her ankle, then slowly stood up. her movements still quite sluggish.

“Looks like Jackson Simpson is in a real hurry.”

“Yes,” the assistant confirmed. “Jason Simpson invested in several projects that incurred heavy losses. Hel urgently needs to salvage his image with the board. He even tried to set up a meeting with you before to discuss a few collaborations.”

“A few?” Camren’s voice dropped even colder. “What makes him think he can?”

“Jackson and Ryan were…after all…” The assistant paused before continuing. “The projects department didn’t completely shut it down, just said they needed a project evaluation.”

“Ryan hurried them along a few days ago, but the evaluation results weren’t ideal, so the lower–level staff didn’t dare propose it blindly.”

Not until Britney’s figure completely disappeared from the courtyard did Camren withdraw his gaze. “Send word: I approve of Jackson Simpson’s collaborations, but the contract terms need to be renegotiated.”

Camren’s next words stunned the assistant. It sounded like Mr. Lewis was cornering Jackson Simpson.

“Mr. Lewis, he might not agree.”

“Does he have a choice?” Camren scoffed contemptuously.

“Yes, I understand.” The assistant on the other end of the line could only silently offer Jackson his deepest

sympathies.

What was he thinking, going after Mr. Lewis’s wife?

His anger was certainly understandable. The assistant could already imagine how much Jackson would regret his actions once he found out the truth.

After Camren hung up, he opened the surveillance footage…

Chapter 15

The video angle was a bit far, but he could still clearly see a small room in a corner of the Simpson residence slowly open its window. Then, a slender figure appeared in the frame.

She jumped from a height of three to four meters without the slightest hesitation. After landing, it took her a long time to stand up. She was curled up there, like an abandoned pet, shrouded in darkness, not even daring

to make a sound.

After a long while, she finally stood up, limping as she evaded the Simpson family’s security, leaving through

a small back gate.

Her movements were slow. In the dark, silent night, she walked alone, her tight–lipped expression and the cold. sweat on her forehead showing just how much effort it took her to move.

But she didn’t stop until a car suddenly appeared in front of her….

The surveillance footage in front of Camren’s eyes merged with the phone call he remembered.

disheveled state, telling him she was fine….

“She’s…” Skylar smiled outwardly, but in her heart, she hated Britney.

After that fake wedding, she hadn’t seen Ryan in ages. Finally, he was here, and all he cared about was that little bitch.

“She’s upstairs.”
