Chapter 16
“Chapter 16: Britney Becomes Ryan Lewis’s Aunt
It wasn’t Britney who came out, but Allison Payne.
Allison casually shut the door, and through the crack, Ryan could hear someone lightly cough a few times
inside the room.
“Mr. Lewis, what brings you here?” Allison naturally blocked the doorway.
“What’s wrong with Britney?” Ryan asked, a hint of worry in his voice.
Allison smiled. “Just a little nervous, you know.”
“Nervous?”
Allison gave him a knowing look. “Britney and you are super close, and you’re finally getting married. Of course, she’s nervous! She hasn’t slept well for days. This morning, she woke up with a bit of a fever and a sore throat, couldn’t even talk.”
“She just took her meds, and the doctor said she needs plenty of rest.”
“I’ll go see her.” All of Ryan’s doubts morphed into concern.
Ever since her ear injury, Britney hadn’t been in the best health. She’d spike a fever if she wasn’t careful.
If it weren’t for him, Britney’s health wouldn’t have deteriorated so much.
Skylar, standing nearby, felt her heart pound in her chest. Luckily, Allison stopped Ryan again. “Mr. Lewis. you’re so worried. Is it because you think I won’t take good care of Britney?”
“That’s not what I meant.” Ryan suppressed his urgency.
Allison smoothly pulled Ryan downstairs. “I know you care about Britney, but if you go in now and catch something, who’s going to take care of her tomorrow?”
“You should just head home and get some rest, Mr. Lewis. After the wedding tomorrow, I’ll officially hand Britney over to you.”
Ryan looked back at Britney’s room once more, feeling that Allison had a point. Plus, Britney loved him so much; no matter what happened, she wouldn’t mess up their wedding.
He was probably overthinking it.
Even if there were still some lingering issues in her mind, he could just sweet–talk her after the wedding.
“You’re right. There’s still a lot to confirm for the wedding tomorrow, so I’ll head back now. Please take good care of Britney for me.” Ryan regained his usual calm composure.

“Of course.” Allison asked, as if recalling something “Oh, by the way, will Mr. Lewis be attending the wedding
Tomorrow?”
“He will” A hint of pride flickered across Ryan’s face at the mention. His uncle was always so aloof, rarely mingling with the Lewis family. He’d only show up for family dinners and then leave.
This time, for Ryan’s wedding, he had not only surprisingly agreed to attend but had also handed several Cauldron Group projects over to the Simpson Group. It was clear he intended to elevate Ryan’s status within
the corporation.
Allison was also delighted. “Mr. Lewis is a standout among the younger generation of the Lewis family. His attendance at your wedding shows that he sees you differently. Who knows, after you get married, he might entrust even more important matters to you.”
“Then, our Simpson family will also benefit from our wonderful son–in–law.”
Hearing this, Ryan became even more convinced that Camren valued him. Camren had always been uninterested in women; perhaps he didn’t like women at all. When he got older, he’d need someone to share the heavy responsibility of the Cauldron Group.
Besides him, who else could Camren choose?
“I can’t quite guess Uncle Camren’s thoughts,” Ryan said humbly, though the pride in his eyes was undeniable. “However, we’ll be family soon. The Simpson family certainly won’t be forgotten when Cauldron Group has good projects.”
“You’re absolutely right, Mr. Lewis.” Allison nodded repeatedly.
After Ryan said his goodbyes and left the Simpson residence, Allison and Skylar finally exhaled in relief. Jackson Simpson also emerged from his study.
Skylar watched Ryan’s car drive away from the window, and her heartbeat gradually returned to normal. “Dad, Mom, are we really doing the right thing?”
“Won’t Ryan be upset?”
Allison patted Skylar’s hand reassuringly. “Silly girl, this is your only chance now. Do you really want to keep hanging around Mr. Lewis without any official status?”
“Besides, we’re doing this out of necessity,” Allison’s expression changed. “It’s all Britney’s fault, running off
without a word, no idea where she is.”
“We can’t just cancel the wedding and make both the Simpson and Lewis families the laughingstock of our
circle, can we?”
“But…” Skylar lowered her eyes, appearing internally conflicted, but secretly, she was smirking.
That idiot Britney, after feeling a little wronged, was determined to break up with Ryan and even ran away

from home. This was clearly giving Skylar an opportunity.
She had prevented the Simpson family from finding Britney and had bribed a few of Allison’s close associates to persuade her to switch places at the wedding. That way, Skylar would legitimately become
Mrs. Lewis.
By then, even if Britney wanted to change her mind, it would be too late.
“No “buts.” I think it’s better for you to marry Mr. Lewis.” Jackson said in a deep voice. “All of the Lewis family elders will be there tomorrow, including Mr. Lewis. Even if Ryan is unhappy, he can’t let the wedding fall
through.”
