You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 584

“Miss, if you walk out now, what are we supposed to do here?” Jackson’s voice cracked with urgency.

This was crunch time. If he let his guard down for even a second, Tina would pounce.

Patricia let out a quiet sigh. “Jackson, he’s thinking about what’s best for me. I can’t be selfish.”

“I get it, really. But even if you don’t go, Mr. Padilla would understand!” Jackson’s voice was tight.

All those years of grinding for this moment. She’d finally made it, standing at the top. Now she was ready to turn her back and walk away? If Tina caught even a hint of this, it could ruin everything.

Of course Patricia understood. Her presence at the company was like an invisible hand around Tina’s throat. As long as she was there, Tina couldn’t breathe. But if Patricia left—well, who knew what would happen.

For a second, Patricia hesitated. In the living room, Jackson’s eyes stayed locked on her, pleading silently for her to reconsider.

After a long pause, Patricia finally let out a breath. “No matter what, I have to go.”

“Jackson, relationships go both ways.”

“Yeah, I know,” Jackson said, his frustration bubbling up. “But if Mr. Padilla really gets how hard this is for you, he’d want you to stay. I know I do.”

“He would support me, but that’s not the point. I can’t stay. This is about respect, about showing up for your partner, about giving each other dignity as a couple.”

Her voice grew stronger. Jackson glared, his temper rising.

Who was right and who was wrong? There was no clear answer.

Patricia was thinking about her marriage. Jackson was thinking only about Patricia. Different priorities, different choices. Of course they’d clash.

The room grew heavy and tense. Jackson stood across from her, his hands flexing at his sides.
