You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 586

“Pattie, what’s going on?”

“I’m outside the hospital.” Patricia’s voice was calm, almost gentle.

The second Oliver heard the word “hospital,” his heart jumped. “Why are you at the hospital? Are you sick? Is it something serious? What happened? Who’s with you?” His questions came one after another, rapid-fire, not giving her a moment to breathe.

Patricia felt a little overwhelmed, almost dizzy from his barrage. She waited a beat before saying quietly, “I’m at Golden Bay International Hospital.”

There was a pause on the other end, a few seconds of stunned silence. Then Mr. Padilla finally asked, “Where?”

She repeated patiently, “Golden Bay International Hospital.”

As soon as she said it, he felt a jolt of nerves. Then he let out a shaky laugh that crackled through the phone. “I’m coming down. Wait for me.”

His Pattie. She always knew exactly what he needed.

For days, Miles had been breathing down his neck, and his brothers weren’t subtle about it either. No one wanted to say it out loud, but they were all worried—afraid that the old man might be gone in an instant.

If it was just a casual relationship, maybe it wouldn’t matter. But they were married now. If she didn’t come, not only would he lose face in front of the family, but the whole situation would look bad for them. Worse, if Patricia didn’t even make it through the front door, people would start judging her before they even met her.

But he also knew how important things were in Riverdale. Patricia had worked so hard to get to this point. Everything she had now was because she’d pushed through so much for so long. He couldn’t just ask her to drop everything and come running.

And yet, here she was. She understood him—she saw things from his side and made the choice to come. That’s what love really looked like.

In the hospital lobby, Patricia wore a black pencil skirt and a gray sleeveless knit top, with a matching cardigan over her shoulders because the plane had been cold. Her long black hair was pulled back loosely. She stood near the elevators, glancing over every so often, waiting.

People passing by couldn’t help but stare, their eyes lingering on her. Aiden noticed someone trying to sneak a photo with their phone and quickly stepped in, blocking their view.

Patricia was beautiful—her looks and her presence always turned heads. Some people just couldn’t help themselves.
