You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 594

“Tina’s already been to the villa. She found Grandma, but, weirdly enough, they didn’t even argue.”

Patricia leaned her head on her hand in the back seat, fingers rubbing at her temples, looking completely wiped out.

“Where are they staying now?” she asked.

“Ruby’s apartment,” Jackson replied.

“And Grandma’s still at the villa?”

He nodded. “Yeah, she is.”

Patricia shifted her weight and switched hands, then stared at her fingers, her thumb idly tapping her nail and making a soft click. The big showdown she’d pictured between Grandma and Tina hadn’t happened. Something must have gone wrong—maybe the problem wasn’t as serious as she’d thought, or maybe Tina wasn’t as tough as she pretended to be. Did Grandma have some kind of dirt on her?

Patricia thought about it the whole drive back to Cloud Peak and still couldn’t make sense of it.

“What about Brandon? Anything on his end?”

“I haven’t been able to get close,” Jackson said. “Mr. Lantz is watching us like a hawk.”

Brandon was a weird one. Everything he did seemed to help their side, but he kept everyone at arm’s length, cold and unreadable. Even if you tried to get close and fish for info, he never slipped up.

“Keep someone on him. I want to talk to him myself.”

There was so much she didn’t know, but Brandon probably did. He was in charge of Emerson’s entire case, after all.

That night, Patricia got home to Cloud Peak and crashed into bed without even bothering to shower. At around three in the morning, she woke up freezing because the AC was blasting. She got up, wrapped herself tighter in her blanket, and managed to fall back asleep.

By seven thirty, when she woke again, her phone was full of missed calls and unread messages. Most were from Oliver, but one was a news alert.

“Skyline Entertainment’s epic fantasy drama ‘Heaven’s Quest’ is coming soon.”

Skyline Entertainment. Wasn’t that Ruby’s company?

Coming soon? Huh. Interesting.

“Don’t scare me like that. Mr. Padilla’s been calling non-stop, making sure we’re taking good care of you. He’s only been gone a few days. If you get sick, Johns and I will never hear the end of it.”

Patricia laughed. “Then I’ll yell at him for you.”

“Don’t be silly. You two are married,” Marian scolded gently, fussing as she ran the bath and tidied up the room.

Patricia grabbed her phone and stepped out onto the balcony to return the call. She was still in yesterday’s clothes, wrinkled from sleep, hair a total mess.

On the other end, Mr. Padilla’s voice was soft as he asked why she hadn’t answered his calls last night.

“I was just really tired. I came home and went straight to sleep.”

“But you were up past two,” he said quietly.

He let out a little sigh. “I couldn’t sleep. I just kept worrying until I knew you were home safe.”
