On the top floor of Pacific Capital, the boardroom was filled with early morning sunlight.

Oliver sat at the head of the table, only half-listening to the department managers as they gave their updates. He spun his phone in his hand, checking the screen every few minutes for new messages.

A few seats down, Hector watched Oliver out of the corner of his eye, immediately catching on to his distracted, lovesick vibe. He lounged back in his chair, idly rubbing the back of his ear, quietly amused by the whole thing.

Then a news alert popped up on Hector’s phone. Normally, he’d ignore it, but the words Martin Group caught his eye.

Definitely worth a look.

He scrolled through the article, then slid his phone over for Oliver to see.

They didn’t talk about it again until after the meeting, as they headed back to their offices. Finally, Hector broke the silence. “Your wife really knows how to work the media. She’s practically a PR genius.”

“She should’ve just gone into crisis management,” he added with a smirk.

Oliver’s face was stone cold. He kept walking.

Hector pressed on. “You giving me the silent treatment? I haven’t even done anything.”

Oliver stopped and gave him a look that said he was keeping score. “I told you not to stir things up, but you still went and told Patricia.”

“You’re blaming me? You went to the gym and left your phone behind. Patricia answered when I called. How’s that my fault?”

Seriously, how was he supposed to know Patricia would pick up?

“Hold on. What’s going on with you two? You just got back from Golden Bay and you’re already fighting? You’ve been glued to your phone all day.”
