You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 647

Patricia’s face turned an even brighter shade of red. She looked like she might start glowing any second.

The next morning, as soon as Oliver woke up, he checked Patricia’s arm. When he saw the marks had completely disappeared, he finally relaxed.

Downstairs, Jaxon was already ready to go, suitcase by the living room carpet. Marian had been up early, baking a fresh pie.

“I’ll take you to the airport in a bit,” she said.

Jaxon glanced at Oliver, who came down in his loungewear. “No need, really. The jet’s waiting. There’s nothing to fuss over.”

“And don’t wake Patricia, either. Let her sleep in,” he added.

Jaxon was about to turn away but paused when he saw Oliver pull out a chair. As Oliver sat, the collar of his shirt shifted, revealing faint marks on his chest.

Jaxon gave him a look. “Seriously, take it easy. Patricia’s tiny, you know. You’re going to wear her out if you keep this up.”

Oliver followed his brother’s gaze, tugged at his collar, and just grunted in response.

“Mom and Dad keep asking when you’re going to have kids. Any plans?” Jaxon pressed.

“Soon,” Oliver replied.

Jaxon couldn’t help but add, “When you’re trying for a baby, you’ve got to be extra careful. If you’re really getting started, cut out the drinking and smoking. Remember what happened with Sara’s cousin? That was a nightmare.”

Oliver’s mood soured at the mention of that story—who wanted to hear something so grim first thing in the morning?

“Can’t you say something cheerful for once?” he muttered.

“I’m just looking out for you,” Jaxon said.

Sara’s cousin had only been married a few months when his wife got pregnant without them realizing. One night, things went wrong. She started bleeding badly, and neither she nor the twins survived. After that, her cousin was never the same—he barely spoke to anyone anymore.
