“Hailee, please, just come down. We can talk about this, alright? It’s not safe up there.”

Amelia had barely stepped into the office that morning before everything started falling apart. The assistant she’d mentored from scratch was suddenly at the center of a crisis. Whether Hailee actually jumped or not, Amelia knew her own job as HR manager was hanging by a thread.

Hailee stood right at the edge of the rooftop, eyes blazing as she looked at Amelia. Her voice shook with anger. “What’s there left to say? Why does she get to do whatever she wants? She hit me, and somehow my parents are the ones who lost their jobs! Why is that fair?”

Amelia instantly knew who “she” was. The police behind her weren’t as quick, but they could see Hailee was on the verge of losing it, so they tried to keep her calm.

This was the thirty-second floor, right in the middle of the financial district. If anything went wrong here, none of their careers would survive it.

“Just tell me who did this. We’ll talk to her, alright? But you need to step back. Please, Hailee, this is serious.”

“Tina. It’s all Tina.”

“How can she get away with this?”

“She hit me for no reason, then acted all apologetic to my face, but behind my back, she ruined me. She got my parents fired. Why would she do that? How could anyone be that cruel?”

Down below, the reporters in the crowd perked up at the mention of Tina’s name. If they could have gone live right then, they would have.

More and more people crowded onto the rooftop.

Meanwhile, Tina had no clue what was happening. She was just turning into the company garage when a swarm of reporters rushed out, cameras flashing, blocking her BMW from moving an inch.

Thanks to the car’s soundproofing, Tina couldn’t hear a thing. She just saw the chaos—cameras everywhere, reporters shouting questions she couldn’t make out.

Security finally showed up and cleared a path for her car.

As soon as she pulled in, Tina turned to her assistant. “What’s going on?”

Her assistant looked stressed. “Ms. Klotz, Hailee’s threatening to jump.”
