“I’ll come with you!” Patricia blurted, cheeks a little pink.

Luckily, Roger was fine—just rattled from the fall. Patricia, true to her belief that a fat transfer beats a few comforting words any day, grabbed Oliver’s card and sent Roger two million dollars on the spot.

Roger just stared, completely thrown by how quickly Patricia fixed things with such a blunt and generous move. He almost didn’t know what to say.

Oliver raised an eyebrow. “Cat got your tongue?”

“Thank you, Aunt Patricia,” Roger managed, still a little dazed.

Patricia grinned, a little embarrassed. “Thank your Uncle Oliver. That was his money.”

By eleven, Patricia and Oliver were finally in bed. Oliver had barely settled in when Patricia rolled over, curling into his side, her arms sneaking under the silk of his pajamas to wrap around his waist.

She let out a quiet, contented sigh at the warmth of his skin.

He never wore cotton pajamas. She’d never seen him own a pair, never caught him in anything but silk. The total opposite of her tastes.

Oliver’s life had always been pure luxury, and it showed in everything. On paper, John handled the Cloud Peak estate, but every detail screamed Oliver’s style.

His water glasses were crystal.

For tea, there was a special set of porcelain cups.

Even the sandalwood scent in his study—he picked it out himself.

The same went for the jewelry lined up in her closet.

Patricia tucked her face into his chest, nuzzling him like a sleepy kitten.

Oliver held her close, fingers trailing gently over her hair. “Sending Roger money just ends up making things easier for Sara, you know.”

Patricia looked up, curious. “How come?”

“Colton and Roger both spoil her like crazy.”

“That sounds nice,” Patricia said softly. It must be amazing to have brothers.

If only she’d had family around when she was little—maybe things would have been different…
