You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 673

All eyes landed on Brandon.

He gave a tired little smile. “You’re right, you do have the right to refuse. But today, I really think you should come with us.”

Tina’s face darkened. She didn’t even try to hide her annoyance. “I don’t have time for this.”

Her words were sharp, almost accusatory. “Is this how the police work around here? Just show up and drag people away wherever you feel like it?”

Patricia’s voice echoed in Tina’s mind, cold and taunting.

If I were you, I’d have run by now.

No one escapes forever.

Tina shot Brandon a look, sizing him up from head to toe. She knew exactly who he was, but still threw out a challenge. “And what about your uniform? How am I supposed to know you’re even a real cop?”

Brandon kept his voice calm. “If I remember right, this isn’t the first time we’ve met, Tina.”

She didn’t argue. “No, it’s not. But people change jobs all the time these days. Who can say you’re still with the force?”

Brandon nodded, a faint, patient smile playing on his lips.

He’d tried to reason with her, but Tina wasn’t having any of it. He’d tried to be polite, but what was the point if she just brushed him off? He wasn’t about to beg her for cooperation. He was too old for games like that—and this wasn’t some minor thing. She was being accused of murder. Back in the old days, she’d have been thrown into a river with a stone tied around her neck.

After years as a detective, he’d seen every kind of desperate struggle.

Even the Martin Group’s expensive legal team hadn’t managed to get Emerson out. Did Tina really think she could slip away?

Xing Chen stepped forward, opening the file he’d been holding. He laid it in front of Tina.

The words at the top were impossible to miss: Arrest Warrant.

“Tina, you’re under arrest for murder. Here’s the warrant.”
