Jimmy looked the most stressed out of all of them, his eyebrows knotted together. “Oliver hasn’t changed at all.”
Roger tried to lighten the mood. “I think Uncle Oliver still feels like Aunt Patricia is obsessed with her whole revenge thing, and she barely pays attention to him.”
Sara rolled her eyes. “Come on. Aunt Patricia was already doing this before they even got married. Didn’t Oliver figure that out beforehand? Why is he acting like it’s a problem now? It’s just his possessiveness showing. The difference is Aunt Patricia isn’t letting him get away with it anymore.”
Katie was quiet for a second, then asked, “Didn’t any of you try to talk to them?”
Sara looked at her like she was crazy. “Are you kidding? You think I’d dare lecture Oliver? Do I look like I have a death wish? He’d probably throw me out the window.”
Nobody said a word. The silence stretched on.

Meanwhile in Switzerland, Oliver had finally managed to step away from his never-ending work. He went back to his room, dropped onto the couch, and closed his eyes, trying to recharge. Lincoln had arranged for dinner to be sent up. Once the food was laid out, Lincoln glanced over, careful not to disturb him. “Mr. Padilla, Johns called a few times this morning. He said it was urgent.”
Oliver’s eyes snapped open. “Why are you only telling me now?”
Lincoln looked uneasy. He’d tried to say something a few times, but every time he got close, Oliver would wave him away before he could get a word out. The guy was just too busy to listen.
Oliver didn’t want to hear any explanations. He just held out his hand. Lincoln got the hint, handed him the phone, and dialed Johns for him.
The call went through and Oliver spoke first, his voice low and serious. “It’s me.”
“Sir,” Johns said, sounding nervous. He really didn’t have a choice but to tell him. “Mrs. Padilla moved in with Ms. Lawrence tonight. She took Marian with her.”
Oliver was quiet for a moment. “When did this happen?”
“Mr. Lantz.” As Brandon approached, Jackson flicked the cigarette to the ground and crushed it out.
“Were you waiting for me?” Brandon asked.
“Yeah.” Jackson stepped closer and handed him a file folder. “My boss sent me. She said it’s to congratulate you on the promotion.”
“What’s inside?”
Jackson shrugged. “No idea.”
Brandon hesitated, wanting to make it clear he was keeping his distance from Patricia. “I can’t accept this.”
